Yeah it was surprising Harding retired when he did and didn't have alot of fights overall........ maybe the grog had something to do with it.

More likely wear & tear Beaver.

You can't defend with your jaw through a long career - but I'd never question his courage.

Johnny Lewis didn't want Jeff to go around too long - and had LaLonde in his sights towards the end for one last big payday - unfortunately it never happened.

I remember an interview at the time where he was still training......and to paraphrase he said he didn't see anything wrong with having half a dozen schooners after training. I don't think he ended up fighting after that.

Is Jeff still off the **** , Ive seen some of my mates from around here i was in school with who turned pro struggle with the **** post career , i have a pint with them sometimes but it seem's their ability to handle the **** goes south along with their punch resistance , still we have a giggle about old gym wars and my inability to stay verticle whilst "Sparring" and my dependiture on smelling salts . lol

I think he's bveen clean now for almost a year. He was at the card last night all suited up and looked about 10 years younger than he did the last time I saw him which would have been about 2 years ago.

Leon, I also get goosebumps from that fight, and love him or loath him, but I always love seeing Jeff Fenech during that fight. Especially in the later rounds when he's getting very animated. I think even Tyson was getting into it at the end also.

Its a great little time capsule, Fenech, Tyson, King & Trump can all be clearly seen enjoying it.

To me its THE most under rated individual Australian sporting performance ever. Never gets a look in on any of the 'experts' list and is only remembered by the faithful.

I know Jeffs had some struggles but if anyone deserves some recognition and respect, its him.

    Here, here Leon.

...and Jeff's speech in the ring immediately after winning the title also gets the hairs on the back of the neck standing.

True. In a way, he's our version of Ali.

I dont watch a lot of old fights, but I do like to watch the Andreis fight every now and again. It's a true life Rocky fight that one.
