I have question, mostly for some of the guys who are really in the know, but also for everyone.

With Danny Green weighing in at 185lbs for his last fight, he is starting to get to a pretty decent weight. I know it isnt on the agenda, but given that he is almost certainly the best cruiserweight in Australia, do you guys think that he would win the Australian Heavyweight Championship, at his current fighting weight? Would he beat Colin Wilson or not? I am sure Green has probably sparred heavyweights and some people would have some good input. Plust there was the Toney spar a while back where he seemed to go okay.

I actually think that fighting as a heavyweight might actually give him some interesting media power. Assuming he was good enough, Green could make massive money (I believe) if he were to fight say Colin Wilson and win, Possibly Defend against Hopoate and/or Haumono (both mainstream media names), and then give massive meaning to a Mundine v Green II match.

Plus, as an added bonus, if he were successful, there is Toney, Haye and former Briggs opponent Adamek who could be huge fights for Green, moneywise. Okay, sorry enough of the dreamy fantasy boxing posting, what do you guys think of his chances with Colin Wilson. would Greens undoubted Class stand him in good stead for a fight with Wilson or would Wilson be too big and strong.

    Is he really? :huh

How does beating a washed up Roy, Niekerk and Siaca make him the best CW in Australia? He hasnt even faced the Australian title holder (though currently vacant). I wouldnt give him that title just yet. I wouldn't put it past Vea to take out Siaca in under 5 rounds...

What I can say though is he's the most popular CW in Australia, and as a result has the best opportunities for world rated fights in front of him.

Dannys a wanker but come on mate he would towel up all our Cruisers.

Dont know about the heavys as Danny aint a heavy.Or anywhere near it to be honest. He would need to go on a crazy diet to get up to the mid 90kgs which is still tiny for heavyweights.

Didn't couldn't knock out Wilson, Mirovic, Leapai, Meehan etc

He needs to stick to no heavier than CW in Australia and Light heavy if fighting overseas.

of course he'd be our best cruiser.

don't worry about what weight he is now, if he was to fight at heavyweight ( which i quite sure he won't ) he'd obviously put on plenty of more weight before.

its just that other than fighting probably chad dawson i don't think there r too many massive fights out there other than at heavyweight. there r plenty of good other payday fights at light/cruiser though.

wouldn't be surprised if he were to knock wilson etc. out but not haumono or de mori for example.

I think he would be the best cruiserweight at the moment also.

When i was talking about going to heavy, I wasnt talking about going up in his own weights, but fighting at his current weight or his best natural weight. Interestingly, Mundine Senior weighed less than Danny when he was Australian heavyweight champion.

quite right. Marciano would be a tiny heavy by todays standards...

I dont see what that has to do with anything. Marciano was champ along time before Mundine.

Mundine won the Aussie heavyweight title first in 1972 when he defeated the 210 lb Foster Bibron. He is big by todays standards. His second reign was started by a win against 200lb to 220lb Maile Huamono (there is a familiar name). Again, he is not small by todays australian standards.

Mundine retired in 1981, but the guys he beat were still champion as late as 1984. This was an era of big heavys. And it dare say (that the 70s at least) was an era where Australian heavys were probably better than the current era of heavys. I know what you guys are saying, in that it doesnt happen any more, but does that mean it couldnt? Danny Green is a smaller fighter compared to our heavys, but he is also a lot better on the world scene (for his weight). Is his better pound for pound class enough to overcome the size question? Roy Jones Jr (a danny green victim) was able to beat John Ruiz (a hell of a lot better than our current aussie fighters, Kali obviously excluded from the discussion). Is it not more than likely that despite his size, Danny Green could beat these guys?

Some good points and some good history Boilermaker.

You are perhaps old enough, like myself, to remember Mundine (Snr) winning those bouts & titles.

Using your logic, and I think I agree with it, Green may well be capable of beating some/many of our heavies. Someone like Kali Meehan would probably beat him comfortably though IMO.

Green would beat all our cruisers, and most of them very comfortably IMO.

Bottom line is Green is busy getting the best fights he can, for the best $$$ he can get, at around his preferred body weight, and has little or nothing to gain from fighting locals physically bigger than himself.
