Chinny? Coming down in weight hurt Roy's punch resistance obviously. Before that he had a solid chin. I was at the Hopkins fight Dec. 2. Looking through the promo guide for the fight, they had picks of Hopkins against his greatest opponents. They had a pick of Bernard landing a flush punch on Roy's chin. If you ever saw that fight, Jones never so much as flinched at any punch.

In his prime, Roy Jones Jr. was the most talented fighter of all-time and one of the best all-time. He shouldn't be judged by these last 5 years!!!!

That said, you guys are probably right. I'd love to see a Bernard rematch and think Roy can win, but he should retire. I would be heart broken if he got badly hurt.

No fluke.Roy's been inviting guys for years to put'em down with his hands down. Now that his reflexes and speed have diminished he's much moire hittable.

It was no fluke or flash kd.

half of it was about roys left hand. it was dropped too early.

i agree with your thread title on that basis. roy keeps his left up for at least 3 rounds, even!... he wins.

Good thing the plan wasn't to make excuses...

Green has never weighed in more than 180lbs. 175 to 180 is a 3% increase in bodyweight. The excuse is that that's too much? Next fight the excuse will be that at his age making 175 is too difficult.

I do buy "styles make fights" and a BHop fight is a completely different ball game. But a top-10 p4p fighter against a guy that hasn't beat a top-10 fighter in his division in years just isn't of interest.

And even if you are granted explaining away the Green fight, how do you explain away the common opponents of Tarver and Calzaghe? The class gulf between BHop and Jones is massive at this point. If they want to stage the fight, by all means, go ahead. But defending it as a competative match as opposed to an easy payday for BHop and the best payday Jones could manage at this point is impossible. It'd be a cynical exploitation of fan loyalties and nothing more.

I'm torn. I don't want to see Roy hurt or even risk getting hurt again but the lure of watching the 2 pensioners go at it again is too much. The build up would be classic

it wasnt a great punch but it caught in right in a bad spot. but jones needs to retire. that fighting style of his leaves him open to get koed again. back in the day, he had the youth to use it and make it look good. now, he just asking to be koed again and again.

For me this fight proves that Roy never had the ability to travel overseas and fight in someones hometown. True greats fight anywhere against anyone - not in their comfort zone
I reckon this is a similer result to whjat would have happened if Roy [had dared to] travel to the UK and fight Nigel Benn.....He would have crumbled not being in his home advantage comfort zone!

I actually agree, the fight was a fluke. Green landed a lucky punch to the back of Jones head. If he caught him on the chin then I would agree with the rest of you, but that's not what happened. The stoppage was premature too, imo.

Bull**** it was well earned he let his hands down and payed the price. He was toying with the guy and found out he can hit the hard way. Usually when jones toys with you he makes you miss and counters. Like when he did the chicken dance and KO'd the guy. Since he did this it shows he is shot no longer capable af his old ring antics
