That's a bad idea. Even if he wins (which I doubt will happen), the chances are he's going to come out of the fight a different man than when he went in.

Why let your kid watch you face someone who is going to hurt you with every power shot? I appreciate confidence but leave your family out of it.

I'm not sure why people are so rabidly against the idea of boxers having their families at ringside in general. Unless you have a very shaky jaw and/or you're facing a massive puncher, the probability of getting KTFO is low. Scant few matches end that way. And most high-profile athletes probably won't be able (or willing) to hide their profession from their children. Wouldn't you want to cheer on your parent that you idolize from ringside?

...I acknowledge that some would argue either or both conditions are met here...

Jacobs has already been KTFO. Pirog shuts his lights off for 5 seconds. Then when he awoke the red wouldn't let him beat the count.

Getting put out cold is probably easier on the body than an accumulation beatdown.

Jacobs will likely be hurt very bad. Golovkin has heavy handed power. The kind of dull thudding power that devastates another person's body.

Remember when Cotto's family was devastated and hysterical when he took those knees against Margarito?

Or when Kovalev prolonged the pain for Pascal? And his kid was watching it.

Those are the things people don't want to see

This fight could be a life changing moment for him, good or bad I can see why he wants him there. Jacobs has nothing to loose going into this fight , so the pressure is on GGG to deliver. For his sake I hope he does.

Well they can either witness it live in person at the arena (where they can at least go check on dad's well-being and offer comfort in the locker room more or less immediately once the physicians have checked him out, as opposed to going through a nervous wait from afar) or they can see it unfold via the remoteness of television...or have their friends at school end up sending them a YouTube link (probably with all kinds of disparaging/mocking comments attached), so.. :nusenuse:

I think what makes us truly uncomfortable isn't the fact that kin are present for some of these more barbaric fates met by their pugilistic loved ones, but rather the gawky and gratuitous attention paid these moments by TV cameramen and technical directors. Maybe instead of "boxers shouldn't bring kids to fights" we should be saying "networks shouldn't exploit their fear and pain by putting them on public display just because it seems like good television".

Have you ever been to a live boxing show? There are kids younger than 8 all the time at every local club card everywhere, and nobody bats an eyelash.

Yea good point about the cameramen showing the family during the worst points of the punishment. You see these fighters who hit really hard or throw large volumes of power shots. And it ****ing hurts like hell when they keep landing. And the guy taking the punches is experiencing a lot of pain. Everybody can see it and know what's going on. But somehow showing the families makes it more obvious? Not necessary.

Just saying it isn't out of the ordinary.

Are you against young children watching boxing on TV?

Not all fighters are vicious in the ring though. I'd be perfectly fine bringing my 8 year old to a Paulie Malignaggi, Chris Algieri or Daniel Geale fight. It might inspire them to try dancing.
