They obviously want a highlight reel KO before putting him in with another serious opponent.

I doubt he'll get a highlight reel KO with Spike, most likely it'll be one of those Mora like victories, down several times, but never badly hurt, and the ref decides to call it. Or like the Truax KO, a flurry after he stuns Spike.

What's with Baba Yaga, is that a reference to the Italian film? Or just to the folklore?

I think Spike is a natural 154lber who got beat into submission by hardly the biggest puncher in CEJ. I think Spike might get taken out brutally by someone as big as DJ if the ref doesn't jump in at he first sign of trouble.

Baba Yaga is a reference to that fairly ridiculous John Wick film after a friend was laughing at me wearing a freshly tailored black suit whilst staying at a nice hotel called the Continental in Madrid whilst there on work.

I can't say I hate this fight but for Jacobs to remain @ his lofty status he needs to go better than CEJ and BJS and I can't see him doing that at all.

If he decides to take the fight he needs to go toe toe and take Spike out brutally.

My opinion one left hook from Spike and Jacobs goes into running man mode and his stocks drop dramatically

Possibly, but I think Spike has a good enough chin to stay on his feet, forcing the ref to jump in.

I forgot all about the John Wick reference, I'm a big Italian Horror buff and have been collecting them since I was an early teen, there's a decent but not great film made in the early 70's called Baba Yaga The Devil Witch, based on the old crone from Slavic folklore, so every time I hear Baba Yaga, which is not often. My mind automatically goes there.

Perhaps. I just don't think he'll be able to deal with the difference in size and quality. He's faced decent guys in BJS and CEJ but neither punch like DJ.

Italian cinema wise, didn't Marvin Hagler get involved in Italian cinema post retirement?

And ha. I dated a Ukranian/Canadian girl for a bit so know a little bit about their folklore. The funniest was when she showed me the soviet version of the Winnie the Pooh.

Yeah, Hagler was in the Indio series, that was directed ironically by a guy named Antonio Margheriti, who used the pseudonym Anthony M. Dawson, he was the ghost director for Paul Morrissey on Andy Warhol's Dracula and Frankenstein. He directed the brilliant Virgin Of Nuremberg and Danse Macabre.

The little I just watched of that Pooh cartoon... That was quite strange.

Imagine coming home from a heavy night out and the chick you're with starts babbling on about that before putting it on - I was seriously like WTF for the whole 5 minutes it was on.

Attractive but an odd one for sure. Still back on topic, Jacobs should be getting a higher rated opponent than this is - if I were him I'd look to KO a Charlo or Lara and get everyone talking.

You say BJS is available but I’m not sure about that,I mean Saunders probably isn’t frightened of facing anyone as his resume would suggest but he’d be thinking what does Jacobs bring to the table in terms of money and belts,as BJS has the WBO belt he’s obviously sitting pretty with Canelo and Golovkin and him being the next in line,as Jacobs doesn’t have a title it probably doesn’t make sense for him to fight Jacobs until he gets one of the above?

    I bet.

And yeah I agree, I wish Spike would stay in his lane and pursue a fight with Murray or Rosado, he can milk this win over Douglas a lot longer instead of looking for an automatic big cash out.

agreed, and in addition to Jermall Charlo, Demetrius Andrade, and Saunders, any of these would be a significantly better opponent for the guy who claims to be the best MW in the world
    • Sergiy Derevyanchenko
    • Royoto Murata
    • Matt Korobov

if it's a UK opponent he wants (which of course should not take priority over making a fight against the best available opponent) either of these are much better opponents than Spike O'Sullivan:
    • Martin Murray
    • Andy Lee

Jacobs has gone right back to what he was doing before the GGG fight--fighting twice per year against opponents non-contenders

and yet he continues to demand a rematch with GGG.

i seriously doubt that fight ever happens, because:

GGG beat Jacobs convincingly in the first fight, the local-leaning scorecards notwithstanding

it's unlikely Jacobs will be able to get away with the same tricks (apparent last-minute decision to miss the IBF weigh-in and failure to submit VADA samples); Loeffler commented on this immediately after the fight

as the four-strap champion, GGG obviously wanted a rematch clause in contract for the first fight, but there was not one. Because GGG would clearly want this clause, it's omission must have been due to Jacobs, so i suspect it was a concession by Team GGG to get Jacobs in the ring (Team GGG also had to agree to give Jacobs a 41% split, well above his mando split of 25%); in sum, there's no re-match clause, almost certainly due to Jacobs, and yet now Jacobs complains that GGG owes him a rematch?

it would likely be the second half of 2018 before GGG would even begin to consider a rematch, 18 months after the first fight. What is Jacobs' likely standing in the MW division at that time--what will he have done during those 18 months? To date, he hasn't beaten a single Top 10 opponent, nor even made a fight with one.

Just wait for the newbies saying he's ducking Saunders
