Danny Jacobs is the top dog at 160 and a damn good fighter

I've always supported this guy for years. A true warrior who backs down from nobody. He ran Golovkin close when GGG was 34. Now Golovkin is 36.

Jacobs is too long for Canelo and too fast. I'd personally advise Canelo not to fight Jacobs. The same way he ducked a prime Golovkin.

160 is actually a pretty deep division right now, but Jacobs runs through them all.

Very underrated fighter and I'm glad hes starting to get the respect now.

He was robbed against GGG and Canelo wont fight him.

160 may be the deepest division right now. So much talent. The fights should be competitive enough for it to not be a clear #1 if the fights actually happen. Matchmaking determines the top guy right now instead of talent imo sadly.

I'd still favor Canelo and GGG. I see him as #3 in the division and unlikely to ever be anything but a top contender.

He wasn’t “robbed” against GGG in the least. The guy put up a decent fight but lost a decision to the deserving victory and better fighter.

And that will be Jacobs biggest claim to fame. Well that and his highlight reel KO loss to Pirog. Lol

Sulecki was robbed, he won that fight, despite the late knockdown.

Jacobs is a good contender but hes lucky to have a world title, he got it by easy vacancy. He wont have it for long.

By that token there is only one or two fighters per division that are above a "top contender," right?

Usually a #3 ranked guy in a division is a proven commodity, it seems so here with Jacobs. I know it's just a word/phrase but he is one of the boys the top contenders are hoping for shots against, so I think he's above a top contender?

I tend to think Canelo, Golovkin, Jacobs, and Saunders aren't just "top contenders," they are "the best in the division."

I agree that Jacobs probably had the best showing out of everybody against GGG but I think that he lost a close decision. Nothing controversial for me there, the KD was what sealed the deal.

That said the OP may be right. Jacobs is an impressive and powerful fighter and I think he'd give a guy like Canelo all he could handle and then some.

Danny would have trouble with Saunders, Andrade and Big Twin
stylistically. I think he's the legit number 2 or 3 in the division until
    proven otherwise however.

I think the forementioned could all potentially beat Canelo
(win on the scorecards is a different matter altogether though)

The guy's recovery from cancer to world level should be commended. He almost priced himself out of the Golovkin fight but he was still willing to take the fight when a certain ginger diva was still almost choking on his clenbuterol every time so much as mentioned Kazakhstan.

What rounds did you give Jacobs?

I think Jacobs did a helluva job against GGG and it could have gone either way. He's a problem for anyone at MW, GGG or otherwise.

I think he has all the tools to beat Canelo. His risk vs. reward is all wrong and he'll probably never get that fight.

The first 3 rounds vs. GGG were left on the table, IMO. Neither man seized them and the judges edged them to GGG. That was the fight and I'd love to see a rematch.

I'm also a big fan of his.

I have been a Jacobs appreciator for a few years now (although I was really on the Fernando Guerrero bandwagon prior to fighting Quillin, and wanted to see Fernando and Danny back in 2013). I think he would beat GGG on a sequel, and that Canelo and Jacobs would be a fun contrast in styles. I think Canelo would beat him, but it would be a close and enjoyable fight....one of the ones I hope get made in this era.
