Danny Jacobs: Triple G Will Avoid Rematch; I'd KO Him This Time!

Jermall would be a good fight, even though he's coming up in weight he seems physically
bigger than nearly every other MW in the top 10. He could be the dark horse of the division,
not ready to anoint him yet, I need to see him actually at MW

 

Literally every single scorecard, official and unofficial (from press row) had this fight as a swing 7-5 fight
for either fighter. That's not getting completely outboxed.
This is a fight 98% of people agree was a close one, no one got schooled or outboxed.

 

I think Jermall is supposed to fight that Argentinian guy, who was no 1 WBC contender for quite a while now. Forgot his name.

well indeed it could be his career mantra, because putting together a deal to get him in the ring again won't be easy.

money is (obviously) the main reason--he was paid $1.5 M for his fight with Quillen, which is hard to believe; so as you would expect in the negotiations for the GGG fight, he contested the WBA super champ-challenger purse split and the WBA promptly rejected his position. Agreement reached before purse bid. Jacobs actual take from that fight was still well above the 25%, so it looks like GGG's side made up the difference to get him to take the fight (really strange given that Jacobs was GGG's mando yet Jacobs had to be talked into the fight with more money).

in sum, Jacobs seems to be looking for GGG-type money every time he steps in the ring and i just don't see how that's going to happen with any frequency suffficient to keep a 32 year old contender busy.

The guy really is nowhere near this Saint many of you make him out to be.​

sadly that seems to be the case. His behaviour after the GGG fight has been infantile--starting from the post-fight interview until today, more than two months after the fight. He's done nothing but whine about being robbed and riffs GGG as "over-hyped" (compare this to what GGG says about Daniel).

the judges reached the right result, but Daniel was still the beneficiary of home cooking--MSG is like 10 minutes from his house. Any doubt about that, just look at the 12th round, which one of the three judges actually gave to Jacobs.

And his behaviour was exactly the same after his loss to Pirog--there were just less people willing to listen to him. He was KO'ed but still gave a post-fight and the first thing out of his mouth was blaming the loss on a bad camp caused by his grandmother passing away. Lampley was so suprised to hear this that he asked Jacobs: "are you saying that you lost because your grandmother passed away?" Might be true, but using it as an excuse is another thing. Could have just as well been a motivator like it was for Buster Douglas.

i think Daniel fought the fight of his life; he had six months to prepare while he argued over money; he cheated on the weigh-in rules (by ignoring a rule that he knew GGG would comply with); i heard nothing about Jacobs taking a single drug test and both sides had agreed upon, GGG took five separate tests during camp).
