I question Canelo's power. I'm not sold on it yet. imo I'll get a better gauge of Canelo's power at 160 if he fights more middleweights. so far he's fought GGG & Chavez (both durable guys) and landed flush on both guys' head & body and didn't seem to affect them nor drop them. that's expected from GGG & Chavez, both got iron chins & durable bodies but I wanna see how effective Canelo's punches are against Lemieux, Jacobs, Stevens, Saunders, etc. Could Canelo's biggest shots drop middleweights?
Jacobs height, length, athleticism and skill fighting off the back foot and at distance would absolutely stymie Canelo. Jacobs might start putting on some serious hurt in the championship rounds. This fight is just all wrong for Canelo.
Jacobs by a wide UD. MW division is hot now, now that GGG slipped a little and the gap between him and everyone else has closed.
i'd pick Canelo. i think Canelo's head movement, and defense would be too much for him.Jacobs is a head hunter. go watch the rematch with Sergio Mora, he had a lot of trouble finding his target. Canelo won't be remotely as easy for Jacobs to hit as GGG was. and for as much as people talk crap about Canelo's power, he's proven himself to be a devastating puncher on the same level as GGG. i think Canelo would win by KO or UD. Jacobs is one of my fav fighters btw, but like Canelo said there's levels to the sport.
But how is he going to be explosive against someone rangier than Golovkin who won't come forward as much and has more handspeed>
This. I think Canelo wins on the scorecards though so i picked Canelo to win. Jacobs is just a bad matchup.
he stood toe to toe and traded punches with GGG, and appeared to land the harder shots. Roy Jones even remarked that Canelo was throwing harder punches than GGG. i honestly think HBO, and the media makes us biased in favor of certain fighters. the same thing happened with Ward/Kovalev. we were constantly told by commentators like Max Kellerman that Kovalev is a monstrous power puncher, and liked to inflict pain, etc. But it turns out Ward was the stronger fighter, and in their 2nd match his punches were harder and he won by KO. but HBO still has never given Ward credit for his power the way they did Kovalev. tbh, both GGG and Canelo knocked out similar level of competition. but when both of them fought someone equal in talent, their fights went to decision. for ex. Canelo/Cotto,or GGG/Jacobs.
Jacobs and pretty easily. Two things though: A. Canelo + Oscar would never take this fight B. If somehow Canelo was forced into it like he was vs GGG, he would get a favourable 114-114 card or something despite losing most of the rounds
please just say youre a big fan of golovkin next time. your argument isnt actually logically incorrect. the fact is that commentators dont decide the power of a fighter. results and how they go about those results do. if canelo can knock out wade in equal or less amount of knockdowns we can say his power is on the same or higher level. if canelo can drop or stop jacobs we can say his power is on the same or higher level. canelo has yet to even stop a single middleweight. noone, absolutely noone can guage his power against golovkin at the moment.
