for the Stevenson vs Fonfara undercard according to Quebec media. This would be a very good matchup between two MW prospects with the winner deserving of taking that next step. Jacobs is much taller and more well rounded but Lemieux is mobile and quick enough enough to keep the pressure on him and possesses Danny's kryptonite with his two fisted power. How do you see this fight playing out?
Its time for Ramirez, Korobov, Saunders to fight a fellow prospect or former contender like Andy Lee to take that final step too.
Hmmm, I'm guessing on the undercard of the Stevenso-Fonfara fight? A result of the new GBP-GYM association. I like Danny, but he hasn't developed any as a fighter since his loss to Pirog. If you watch the Giovanni Lorenzo fight (his biggest career win), he fought careless and was swinging for the fences (Lorenzo was just more careless). One factor I use to evaluate a fighter is the level of confidence their promoter has in them. With Danny, GB only puts him in with complete 'no hopers'. Guys who aren't even durable and coming off multiple KO losses. Lorenzo was his toughest opponent since the Pirog fight and even he was coming off a one sided loss to Soliman where he hit the canvas and then had a long layoff. And GB wanted to use that as his spring board into the Quillin fight which to me looks like they were cashing Danny out. If the fight stays in close quarters David lays him out. If Danny can maintain distance I could see him getting a late stoppage or UD. I'm thinking David lays him out.
Danny should win, but needs to avoid any kind of mental lapse and fight smart the entire way. Lemieux's fallen in to the trap most big punchers do by falling in love with his power at the expense of rounding out his game, but he is dangerous before he gasses. I favor Jacobs; a Lemieux win wouldn't shock me. Excellent fight either way.
Make or break #2 for David. That's where we see a difference in the approach he takes vs a guy who can punch... he can't fight like he did against Rubio, that wouldn't make sense. He showed better energy management in the Torres fight. I don't know, Jacobs UD or Lemieux mid round KO... Danny can outbox him all night if David doesn't land big combos. Crossing fingers for a monster left hook in the 6-7th rounds.
I am a bit surprised by this analysis of DJ that you arrive at Eastcoast. I think he was much improved against Lorenzo, and physically he has matured too. He really was very out of his depth against Pirog (the scorecards very criminal). I dont see a Lemieux fight as GB "cashing out" as you say. I see this as GB giving Danny a chance to prove himself, against a genuinely dangerous opponent. :thumbsup David is a high risk opponent, who can damage anyone he hits.
Jacobs vs Lemieux would be a very interesting fight. I'd favor Jacobs but I could see either guy winning. Schaeffer has talked about matching Quillen-Jacobs in NYC this summer and this would be a very reasonable step from the guys Jacobs has been beating and Quillen.
I ment the Quillin-Jacobs fight was GB cashing out Jacobs. GB was rushing Danny into the Quillin fight (originally for last February) without any real step up, and not a lot of activity. The Lorenzo-Jacobs fight was pretty sloppy. I know there was a lot of emotion going in as both guys really disliked one another. Danny started out controlled, but once he got cut he started throwing wild, Lorenzo also which is how he got caught. Honestly the fight was over so quick not a great assessment of where Danny is at relative to being ready for Quillin. Danny's already been KO'd twice that I'm aware of, once by Korobov in the amateurs and again by Pirog in the pro's. Lemieux could go balls out like he did with Rubio and he'd probably do ok in this fight. Rubio's a pretty crafty veteran who knew how to survive and come back, I think if Danny fights Lemieux like he did Lorenzo he gets sparked.
