On paper, it should have ended differently. Olivares could box, switch angles, had a varied attack, had the power and experience...……..he shouldn't have lost that fight, but the years had not been kind to him by then. He was of course a bit uneven by this time.

You are right, of course, Ruben had a lot of mileage on him by this time, but still, I gave him rounds 3, 4 and 5. He went out on his shield that night and I will give him credit for landing some beautiful overhand rights on Danny with him handling it. Check out the right hand he lands just as the bell ends round number 3. At first I thought Danny was buzzed, but he walks back to the corner nonchalantly. Two great fighters.

I love Lopez. Hard not to root for a guy like that. But yeah, the job Chacon did on him was really the script one might have expected Olivares to follow, and maybe vice-versa. Funny sport, this boxing thing......

With no Jr. Featherwt division available to Ruben when he moved up from bantamweight, he was forced to fight the the bigger guys up at Feathrweight..

I've always had a profound respect for both of these guys. I realize that Ruben was not his best for this fight, but I'm always impressed by Little Red in his remorseless, deadly resolve in this fight. Olivares wasn't quite "finished" here, as he still had ahead of him a ko of Jose Ramirez and tough guy Shig Fukuyama before he started to sputter out of gas career-wise.
