Who wins? It'd be a brutal one, but i can't help but feel like McGuigan walks into that power one too many times and gets put to sleep at some point. Lopez KO 8.
Big Book of Boxing magazine did this one as one of their "Dream Fight" features they did in every issue in the 80's. This was of course during the height of Barrymania here, and few thought the Irishman could do much wrong. They had him stopping Lopez in 9. I could see that, but figure on Lopez weathering the storm and stopping him in about 10. Chacon and Sanchez beat Lopez because they changed angles on Lopez and kept turning him. Barry wouldn't do that, he'd move in on more of a straight line.
Lopez hitting so hard and McGuigan being fairly easy to fit would lean me towards Little Red coming from behind and taking it late.
Yeah, McGuigan has to walk through fire to beat Lopez, but the fire is a little too hot. Awesome fight, though. Lopez TKO9
Barry was a very busy fighter as I remember, he would be ahead on points. But he's not really a polished boxer, poor defense. Perfect for Lopez. At any time during the fight, Lopez would nail him, and that would be that! Might be in the first, might be in the fifteenth, but he will nail him. Probably by the 8th
Barry has it his way at first...he does what he wishes to Little Red except knock him down...for some reason, I don't think he would deck Loperz, but he would be solidly ahead on points...until he walked into am perfectly thrown right hand from Danny. The referee intones "10" "whilst" McGuigan is stlll on his knees, struggling to get up. I love both of these guys, but Danny just had that "nuclear option" going for him.
I'll tell you how good Lopez was. When he fought Sanchez, I, and probably most others, were expecting he would land at some point and KO Sanchez. Barry is no Sanchez, not even in the same universe
