Abs have absolutely nothing to do with taking body shots. If you get caught in the ribs sweetly enough you are getting hurt.

I agree totally but I must say that you can’t judge a body shot solely on the impact it visibly makes.

A glancing blow that is barely noticeable can drop and stop a good fighter if it’s in the right area.We have seen it so many times.

Well then gee whizz an awful lot of boxers (pretty much 100% of them) sure have wasted an awful lot of time doing sit-ups haven’t they????!!!

All part of the conditioning and training A strong core is vital for all aspects of boxing movement. You cannot put muscles on your ribs tho that's why bodyshots are so effective when delivered sweetly.

The core is important for body strength, punching power and yes the ability to withstand body shots.

The point made was you cannot condition the ribs or solar plexus.Seperate story altogether.

I agree Johnny v and sohillips ...but you rarely see a boxer with good body conditioning kod to the body. There s a lot you can do to reduce your vulnerability to body shots. gGG does an awful lot f Flor exercise sit-ups with weights etc. There are Sideways sit-ups, Roman sit-ups etc. Pounding the body with a medicine ball etc etc

All this will strengthen abdominal muscles and body core muscles and reduce the size of the sweet spot, and the boxer will need to get hit absolutely spot on to get kod.

But there's no getting away from inherently weak spots in the human anatomy like the solar plexus liver floating rib kidney etc
This is old news. Bob fitzimmons specialised in uppercuts to the solar plexus. Gig kiod macklin to the floating rib. Jose Torres kod Willie pastrano to the liver. Probably all of those kos would have appened no matter what Corbett, pastrano or more recently macklin did in the gym.

I know boxing isn't a body beautiful contest, or a 6pack contest.. . but I still reckon it's highly likely The two Irish lads conlon and barnes probably cut corners, didn't do proper body conditioning work and paid the price. Five minutes later you're grand again, you haven't a mark on you, but all your hard work is down the drain with L Ko on your record. Moral of the story is do the tedious boring ground exercises or pay the price...
