Danny Williams may be boxing's worst victim of corruption

    I was going through some of Danny Williams fights and realized that this guy has been cheated and conned numerous times, probably because he never had a big promoter behind him and was traveling around as a journeyman for most of his career.

    For anyone wondering if corruption, bribes and cons exist in boxing, take a look:

    1. Williams vs. Platov

    Williams fights vs. Sauerland newcomer Oleg Platov, as usual on foreign soil. Wild exchanges in the first 3 rounds, Williams clocking Platov with huge hands. An accidental headbutt opens a cut over Platov's eye in round 2. Sauerland knows once the fight goes beyond 4 it can not be ruled a NC. Williams lands huge uppercuts in round 4, Platov in deep trouble. Ref stops contest with 40 seconds to go, just in time to preserve the NC.

    Williams was robbed of a big win here.

    2. Williams vs. Charr

    Williams fighting on foreign soil once again on a K2 undercard, Charr is being set up for a fight with Vitali. Round 7, after an even fight: Williams throws 30 punches at Charr, landing several. Charr comes back, landing a short flurry, landing 2 punches. Ref steps in and WAVES IT OFF.

    Smells like a BS stoppage to make sure Charr keeps his 0.

    3. Williams vs. Airich

    Fighting in Spain, on a card co-promoted by Airich's then-promoter and Ahmed Oner. Quoting Wikipedia "After managing to fight back and score a knockdown himself in round 5, in the 6th round Williams unleashed a series of extremely punishing blows on his opponent sending him reeling across the ring At this point Airich's promoter Ahmet Oner controversially ran over and rang the timekeeper's bell himself to end the round and save his fighter, even though there was still 1:28 left to go in the round. Despite this confusion the fight continued after the shortened 6th round and after seeing his man absorb more heavy punishment in the next round Oner eventually threw in the towel handing Williams a 7th round TKO victory."

    LOL do you want to say Willams won a single round against Charr?
    Willams throwed 30 punches on Charr because he knew he needed a stoppage. Willams won not a single round.

    Sorry the stoppage looks like BS. Charr looked completely surprised.

    it was a British stoppage, but other than that this wasn't a robbery.

    Yes it was but Williams would have lost on points or late stoppage anyway... Charr was never hurt, and I think Williams gassed himself out at that point because he knew that he needs a stoppage win. Williams was hurt several times in this fight...
    The Airich fight was ****ing criminal. Öner at his best.

    It wasn't a British stoppage. Williams was basically disqualified for punching Charr in the face

    Come on. It was nothing like Ottke vs Reid :!:

    Charr had Danny in trouble, and the ref stepped in to prevent Williams from coming back. It was more like Fury vs Pajkic, only worse.

    If boxing was judged on the size of your shorts I think Danny would be world champion.

    I made a thread about this stoppage just months before the Charr-Vitali match. It is indeed a very bizzare end to a match.

    What I don't get is why people **** on Williams as having a 'glass jaw', this guy has been in numerous memorable wars, never shying away from a good scrap. He's been down a lot but also dished out good punishment. Short-changed numerous times by the 'powers that be': Enemy promoters, hostile audiences, biased refs.

    Yeah the Airich fight was crazy, not just the promoter ringing the bell himself but the incredibly incompetent referee who couldn't speak english, ignored the loose tape and gave standing 8 counts everytime the fighters got hurt, like in the amateurs.

    The Charr stoppage was bad, but have you even watched it? Those 30 punches landed, with the exception of one right at the start and a partially blocked uppercut later in the floor, on Charr's gloves. He just stood there with his gloves high and let him go -- never wobbled, even waved Williams on in the middle of it, asking for more.

    Then Charr threw not two, but nine unanswered punches. A hook landed very, very hard, sending Williams back into the ropes, and a right hand snapped his head back violently.

    Again, premature stoppage, but that account might lead someone to believe that Danny actually LANDED those 30 unanswered punches. They did absolutely no damage and were of no consequence. Watch it on youtube and tell me Danny did 1/10th the damage in his flurry that Charr did wth his.

    Have you forgotten he's also benefited from two lucky decisions, against McDermott and Skelton, and beat Sprott by twice dropping him with low blows followed by headshots.
