Sergei Kharitonov walks out with a bear, stops former Mike Tyson nemesis in pro boxing debut

As a man with 50 combined MMA and kickboxing bouts to his name,
    This content is protected
is no stranger to the ring, and he successfully parlayed that combat sports experience into a winning performance on his professional boxing debut Friday night in Russia.

Forty-year-old Bellator heavyweight Kharitonov took on Danny Williams, who knocked out Mike Tyson in the fourth round back in 2004, in Khimki. On a remarkable night, the big Russian made a grand entrance, then scored a second-round TKO victory after a strange-looking stoppage in their heavyweight contest.

Kharitonov dropped 47-year-old Williams hard in the first round with a clubbing left hook, then finished the British heavyweight in the second round after some heavy shots from close quarters sent Williams staggering backward.

But even more notable than Kharitonov’s victory in the ring was his journey to get to the squared circle as he was accompanied down the ramp by a live bear, prompting the commentators to react in disbelief after initially assuming the trained animal was actually a man in a costume.

It’s not clear whether the presence of a bear intimidated 82-fight veteran Williams, but Kharitonov’s punch power certainly did enough to stun the Brit as the big Russian claimed a big win on his boxing debut.

That Russian guy gave hrgovic fits in the wsb to be honest so no surprise really as he wobbled Williams with jabs last night.

    two things:

    williams needs to retire.

It’s a shame the Russian didn’t turn pro 10 years ago, he controls the distance well and puts nice combos together.

The Russian Tony Booth called out David Haye's name in the post fight interview - Haye currently on the phone to Sly Box Office selling his comeback.

I expected nothing less, at this point Danny is just a heavy bag trading on his past glories.

Good luck to him, only time will tell if he can keep taking these type of shots.

Should have retired the day he lost to Big Fraudley 14 years ago as that was the end of him as a respected pro boxer after 40 fights.

He has now racked up 82 fights with an incredible 28 losses on boxrec and that does not include his non licenced fights.

Sickening to watch him fight at this old age, sickening to watch a man unable to defend himself, sickening to watch an old man being pummelled by much younger men and sickening knowing that the boxing authorities allow this to go on.

He cannot be fighting for enjoyment and any friends he has should not be standing by and allowing this to go on.

This is a guy who lost to a blown up lightweight in Lee McAllister in 2018. I thought he would've jacked it in then, but it seems that no depths can be low enough for Danny Williams.

You have to wonder what's going on in his life and in his mind.

To be honest looked like a Bob Sapp impersonation for me. Danny loooked like he was just waiting for the right opportunity to hit the deck.

    It's sad.
When I read the title of this thread I had to check the date because i wouldn't have been surprised if this was happening 7 or 8 years ago !

Found it very sad to see Danny Williams sitting on his stool after his ring entrance until the ref called them into the centre of the ring.

The jelly legs in round 1 was sickening to see and it looks like the only way he is going to stop is when he is seriously injured.

Black lives matter they say - well let's start with Danny Williams and get his life sorted out.

    100% agree. Well said.

You're not the only one - one of the saddest things I have seen in years. I have always liked Danny Williams, to see him sat in that corner on the stool before the fight like an absolute shell of a man is heartbreaking.

Danny was never the most talented but gave his all in the ring during his prime years.

Would have liked to have seen that Russian fooker showboating in the ring with the Danny Williams that went 8 rounds with a prime Vitali Klitschko

Prime Kharitonov would give prime Williams a good fight.

Kharitonov held back. He could have really hurt Williams don't see the point of giving him shtick. He obviously has respect for Danny.

Insane that he juggled MMA and kickboxing while doing amateur boxing/WSOB. Hell of a crossover talent.

The Russian knew this was a zero risk fight and a total liberty.

A man with respect would have demanded a semi live opponent mate.

I do agree he could have iced Danny badly in there last night.

Look at who Kharitonov has fought through out his career. He took that fight to stay busy and earn some cash during covid. Doesn't make him a horrible person.
