Williams feels he has to come in heavy to be able to take the punches of these guys .

Against Gammer he looked so much better when light , but at the same time the punches(which were coming from a much lighter hitter than Skelton , Audley , Platov etc) he shipped did seem to have more of an effect on him .

He was 270 for Platov , so he's lighter here .
He was also 267 for the first Skelton fight , so he can perform at this weight .

However I'd much rather see him come in at 230 and try and win in the style of the Gammer fight , rather than trying to soak up his opponents presure and then winging big punches looking for the knockout .

He did that in the Platov fight and it nearly cost him, he looked hurt a few times before some of the wild swings began to land on Platov.

    Maybe butterbean is his hero.

and I bet it's what he'll try tonight too, however should he win I reckon he'll come in lighter against McDermott who doesn't offer that much in terms of punching power .

I think Danny's best fighting weight is around the 240 mark.

220 - 230 is too light and he can look wobbly on his feet, whilst at 270 - 280 he has plenty of wobbly bits, particularly around his mid section.

I don't know many who have a bad word to say about Danny Williams, it's just a shame that he didn't reach the heights he could have, bearing in mind the weakness of the division during his prime.

He sure is, even after the Platov farce Danny Williams was composed and a true gent. Spencer Fearon on the other hand was ffing and blinding everything that came into his mouth.

Just watched the pad work??? Who's the coach that work looked pretty poor. Danny needs to be 16-17st to be effective... He isn't James toney but you've got him ducking to the right throwing uppercuts and 'clever' counters. I take it the game plan is to turn up and hope for the best then because that pad and bag work is not that of someone who is going out to take charge of a bout. Any thoughts anyone so I don't feel a ****. :good

Yep, looked **** poor to me, I was expecting more after being given the big buildup. What's with all the yes men around him? All his best mates have a role in the corner now?

I'm still excited about seeing him in action, despite all the evidence that tells you he's going to be bad. There is always that hope inside me he'll fight to his potential. That's Danny Williams for you

One positive thing though, at least he is contained in a gym and not pushing old bangers round Brixton.

Also for those with FTA digital satellite receivers the fight is on DSF @ 19.2E and it 100% free. You also get the bonus of the Hide fight. Starts at 9pm (BST).

Danny has mentioned that this is around his ideal weight for the rest of his career. I think he shall still win but the German looks to have a good punch. I think Danny will win by KO but I fear that something dodgy like a cut will force him out of his British title defense in July.
