I know that he fought and beat a previously unbeaten fighter in March. I would like to see he and Meehan in a rematch but considering the way he quickly destroyed Meehan I am not sure that Kali would be interested in a rematch.
Before i get into this, thanks for everybody that replyed to my post, much appreciated Ok..How dare you say Danny Williams has no desire? Thats absolutely ridiculous. Ok.. Danny Williams. I've been watching boxing for about 5 years properly. Ive loved Danny since i started watching it. Hes the most couragous boxer ever. Look at his fights. I see people linking to that Potter fight..name 1 other boxer that would of carried on after that injury? Actually don't.. You'll be here until next year trying to think!! Seriously, i love the bloke, i think hes the only realistic hope we have of a british heavyweight winning the world title, we all just need to get behind him, with our support he will gain the confidence to fight more regularly. Thats my only problem with Danny, he hasn't fought enough of late. People ought to forget the harrison fight as well, he stepped in at the last minute, he claimed he had been training for 6 weeks prior to that but it wasn't true and he admitted it, he only stepped in because he wanted to beat the crap out of audley again, but unfortunatly was completely out of shape.( audley is a laughing stock by the way) Basically guys, whilst we all have our opinions on the guy, we all have to admit when Dannys at his best he is as good as anybody, better than anybody, i just hope its sooner..rather than too late.. Come on Danny get back in the ring!!
I remember watching him in the Commonwealth games in Edinburgh.. He faced the tough Nigerian Duncan Dokiwari in those games and lost unfortunately .. Duncans career as a pro went similar to Dannys.. Duncan lost to Guinn and Oquendo.. Danny lost to Vitali and Audley.. Audley lost to Guinn and really never progressed past that.. Danny was a star amateur but only as a heavyweight in those days. He was 200 lbs at best , when he weighed around 230 he was chunky and out of his depth, he always had a problem with his diet, but has proven in his last fight that when left to his own devices he could lose weight as fast as he wanted...
Audley caught Danny on last minute notice, no wonder he lost to Audley. He beat Audley with proper notice and a diet of Pizza and kipling cakes though the 1st time. Suprised he would lose to someone like Samil Sam though.
Was great when he knocked Meehan out In 32 seconds. Maannn, he knocked Potter's tooth out though with that uppercut.
Last thing i heard he was only going to continue if he thinks he has a realistic chance at a title. guess he came to his senses and retired?
he looked good against gammer. i would like to see haye v williams http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4qAQ9eWZWo&feature=related
Great fighter, incredibly enigmatic, a total paradox. He manages to be an under-achiever and an overachiever at the same time, which is remarkable. I think he has more heart than just about anyone I've ever seen fight, so for that he'll always have my total respect.
Before he goes, he will destroy some fighters on the way. Hes the best british heavyweight we have, the only hope. Please i urge you all to get behind him, that fight against Potter, ok it wasn't his greatest performance, but that last round.. To not be that tired, to have all that energy left to knock the shi* out of Potter...no heavyweight would have survived that rut. Love you Danny keep doing what you do, get back in the ring before X-mas, then after a good New Year Go for the European.
I think 'great' is pushing it way too far, but on his day Danny could be durable and strong opponent.
Truly spoken, bigcat! Danny is too good to be out of the game for ages! Other fighters like Chechenev or Kandelaki come to my mind right now. Danny is still able to upset a better ranked oppoennt now and then when he puts his best footh forward.
