These two guys arent even the two best in the division but I reckon this would still be the biggest fight at the moment around superfly. Mijaries vs Montiel would probably be the fight to determine the two best out there but it would not generate the kind of excitement this fight would. Thats why I think this needs to happen ASAP because this is the best fight for either guy right now. They both have a big chance of winning and would probably get to choose which title they wanted to challenge for afterwards. It has been talked about for a while, especially when both were at the top but even now with both coming off embarrassing losses its makes even more sense.
I don't get it, if you're assuming that Arce has a large casual fanbase, wouldn't you assume that most of them saw (or at least had by now heard about) his demolition by Mijares? Wouldn't that make even the most casual fan say "Hey, ****, who's this Mijares guy?" and be more interested in seeing the guy who obliterated their hero? Isn't that sort of how the "beat the man to be the man" principle, which most casuals ostensibly follow, works?
Doesnt happen that way, and the paths their respective careers have taken after that fight show it. Arce is still fighting on U.S T.V whereas Mijaries is still fighting against some nobody in Mexico. I still dont think Hopkins has recieved any near the same mainstream popularity even after beating two of the most popular fighters in recent memory. PBF I think is another example. Ruiz beat Holy and Golota and never got much of a fanbase. Raheem beat Morales, and did the riches and PPV fights follow? No. Chris John is still unbeaten, yet hasnt seen much at all manifest out of beating Gainer and "beating" Marquez. The list goes on.
Thats not how casual fans work though. (Unfortunately TBH). That's why guys like ODLH, Tyson (even in the death throes of his career), Holyfield STILL etc, are the drawcards. REGARDLESS of results. As the man said, casual Tito fans didn't become Hopkins fans, casual Tyson fans didn't become Douglas fans etc. Just doesn't work that way. Vic v Arce would be great. Guys don't have to be the best to make great fights (and anyway, these guys aren't far from the top. We're talking top 5 in the division, not top 20 or 30).
Well Mijares has a much fan-friendlier action style than Ruiz, Raheem, or, all due respect, Hopkins. Chris John's just not big on leaving Asia. :yep I guess that's more what I was driving at, that beating the man PLUS being an exciting fighter should logically result in you stealing the spotlight of the former 'man'.
How the hell did Viloria get in the picture? THe Hawaiian Punch does not deserve a payday after his last few performances.
