See Tszyu's 'low punches' were all on Hatton's belt and that was even with Hatton's forearms deflecting and pushing them down. I was so glad to see PBF and Pacman knock Hatton the **** out :yep
didnt notice it when i watched the fight.hope he gets a rematch if for no other reason the fight was so damn good. Agbeko should beat Mares.
Vics manager is being smart and will get a rematch for Vic out of it, **** a small hit to the balls ****ing hurts, how the hell Vic was still standing shows he is one tough dude or he has a vagina. I'm sure the league fans would know, is Vics manager the old tigers player?
WBC to order Darchinyan rematch by Adrian Warren - WWOS - 1ST fEB 2011 Vic Darchinyan's manager Elias Nassar says the WBC will order a rematch of the Australian boxer's controversial bantamweight bout against Mexico's Abner Mares later this year. Darchinyan's team lodged a protest with the American Association of Boxing Commissions and Washington State Department of Licensing after the southpaw suffered a contentious split-points loss to the unbeaten Mares in their December 11 bout in Washington. It was part of a four-man bantamweight tournament, with the defeat sending Darchinyan into an April 23 clash in Los Angeles with Colombia's former IBF world champion Yohnny Perez, who lost the other semi-final to Ghana's Joseph Agbeko. Darchinyan's IBO bantamweight title, and the vacant WBC silver bantamweight titles, were on the line during the fight. The Armenian-born fighter's camp protested against the "sub-standard officiating of the bout by referee (Robert) Howard and one of the judges.". They were also incensed by Mares hitting their man with what they thought were over 20 blows, "14 of which were direct hits to his groin area," and called for the result to be overturned or declared a no-contest and for a rematch to be organised. Nassar told AAP that promoter Gary Shaw had been informed by the WBC that it would order a rematch with Mares, who will fight Agbeko in the final of the four-man tournament. He also said there was unlikely to be any imminent official announcement by the WBC, and Darchinyan was concentrating on his clash with Perez, who has a record of 20-1-1 (14 KOs). "Vic is focused for the Yonnhy Perez fight and we'll take care of the Abner Mares situation after this fight," Nassar said. Meanwhile, Team Darchinyan have pulled off a recruiting coup, which should see Australian boxing bolstered by the arrival of another highly-regarded eastern European fighter. Nassar revealed they'd signed Armenia's former European junior champion and 2009 senior world championship quarter-finalist, Azat Hovhanesyan. He is hoping to follow in the footsteps of Darchinyan and Russian-born former light-welterweight world champion Kostya Tszyu, both of whom won several professional world titles after relocating to Australia. The 22-year-old, who will fight at super bantamweight or featherweight, has an amateur record of 267 wins from 291 fights with 194 KOs. "He's a lethal puncher, very much in the mould of Vic and he fights orthodox and southpaw stance," Nassar said "He's very highly-credentialled. He was also being chased by about five of the big European promotional outfits as well, it's quite a big coup for us. "All the big boys wanted him and were throwing very decent money at him." Nassar said Hovhanesyan was likely to relocate to Australia and would probably have his first professional bout mid-year.
Vic has had very poor understanding of sportsmanship & it's influence on the Oz public. Both as winner & loser someone needs to explain the importance of being humble in front of the media. Having said that, we shouldn't be looking at his (& Team) reaction. What we should be concentrating on is the whole fight administration. The old saying about "We tend to bucket the captain when the ship is what is sinking" seems to apply here. Mares was deducted 1 point in the 4th round. We have to remember that that point would have come after warnings. Once warnings are ignored a point is deducted. After that, all low blows are assessed as a continuance of ignoring the referees instruction & a point for each infringement must occur until disqualification. When this process continued to happen, at some point, the Fight Supervisor should have reminded the referee of his obligations to penalize according to the rules. Nothing was done & no intention to address this continues. These are the things that **** me off, when this protectionism just seems to be never ending & the fighters team has to wear a whingers badge. JMO
i don't believe they have done anything wrong. nothing unsportsman about their actions. the oz public dont know who vic is anyway, so it won't affect him in that way.
Wow, that's a great result from the appeal... That fight's officialing was in no way the worst that's ever happened, but it's good to see that someone complains about it and something is done. Nasser made a good case and got the result he wanted. It says great things for the division for the future too... If Mares loses to Agbeko (likely imo), Vic will get a shot and hopefully a shot at Agbeko. If Mares wins, Vic gets to face him for some titles and likely the #1 ranking in the division. Looking forward to watching Vic this year!
The ref was awful, but he was awful all the way around. He did a lot of things early in the fight that favored Vic pretty heavily as well. But Mares won the fight. I could have lived with a draw, but Vic didn't win.
