Why are people writing Vic off after the loss? If he wants to fight on I'm sure he'll get opportunities.
Says who ? Has he EVER competed in ANY wrestling/ju jitsu events in his whole life ? Don't forget in the UFC he will be fighting the elite in mma not in some bush league event in other orgs.
...and none with going for/defending against submission holds. I think if he hangs around long enough to become an MMA journeyman, his record will look like this: All wins by KO or "submission due to hand strikes" All losses by RNC/armbar/heelhook or decision.
If he fights in the UFC his opponents will never have fought anyone with his punching power either. Nothing even close.
Pretty sure there is an interview or two floating around where he says he did a fair bit of wrestling back in Armenia. But you're spot on...a bit homoerotic schoolgym mucking around ain't gonna cut if in the big leagues.
If Vic wants to continue his boxing career and go after an elusive major world title at bantamweight, he needs a series of fights building up to it. No point winning one tune-up and then straight into a world title fight. It would just be the same result or worse. Also he needs to stop fighting in other guys' backyards. If he's to rebuild, he either needs to be fighting here in Australia or on Gary Shaw undercards in the US (or both). The kind of fighters I'm thinking he should be taking on are guys like Angky Angkota & Nehomar Cermeno. Tough club fighter types who will give him rounds and an accurate gauge of where he's at. Knock over a couple of those types, maybe collect an IBF Pan Pacific title along the way to get himself a decent ranking & then try to secure an IBF eliminator for a title shot. That's all doable within a 12 month period if he has the stomach for it. Of course, if form along the way suggests that he's just not performing at the level he needs to, he can pull the pin & walk away. As for who should be training him, I'd be giving Jeff Fenech a call. Vic never lost a fight under Fenech. Fenech also knows how he should be performing and will be inclined to tell him things he doesn't necessarily want to hear if he's not performing to the level he should be. Also, who's he been sparring with for his last couple of fights? Results like the last couple shouldn't just come out of the blue. I'm sure guys like Paul Fleming & Billy Dib would be happy to give him work. Vic would soon know how he's going if he can't land on them in training. I'm not doubting that Vic has been training hard. But he needs to be training hard with the right people is what I'm saying. Over to you, Vic.
Agree with most of what you've said there mate. Hopefully Vic makes the right decision. Whatever that actually might be :good
Noted & thanks for the info. If he's to continue, he should keep that going. The rest of my comments stand.
