It's true things are looking good now but I would assume that Vic and his team are looking beyond that and what might come in the future based on what Shaw can offer. So far it's good but you never know how things might be later on.
Donaire used to be with Shaw and left him. People leave jobs and do new ones all the time trying to get better deals for themselves and Shaw can't deal with it. He's a vindictive ***** and needs to 'grow up'- I do accept this may never happen! http://www.***********.com/?m=show&id=16309
There is such as contract between the fighter and his manager. If it is stipulated in the contract that it expires on certain date, Vic has the right to renew it or not. If there is a good offer from GBP and HBO, why not? Vic is not getting any younger and Golden Boy is one of the two biggest boxing promo in town. One more thing, Shaw's personal motives get in the way for Vic to redefine his legacy. He does not want Vic to rematch w/ Donaire although Vic wants to do it. We'll see. We'll see.
personal yes. but in a business sense he's really looking out for viC no matter how much he wants the rematch. other than legacy, what good would a immediate win over donaire do compared to moving up in weight and smashing dimitri, mijares & arce for titles? another loss from nonito would have been devastating to his career. again in a business sense, a rematch even now isnt a good idea b/c viC doesnt need donaire. -its actually the other way around.
:goodYep. Darchinyan is one of my fave fighters around at the mo- ignore his unorthodox style, this is what makes him exciting to watch, IMO. The Donaire loss will always be brought up and, unless he's given the chance to avenge it, then it always will be. Add to that the fact that it's a fight a lot of fans wanna see!
Well, I for one think Gary Shaw did a fine job with Vic so far, the fights he made after Donaire loss were absolutely quality and now another blockbuster is coming up. They seem to work very well together, and no, I don't think Shaw is against the Donaire rematch (NonAir should get a meaningful TV fight and a BW world title first). Vic stepped up before the Mijares fight and said: Gary, make the fight! - and Shaw made it. He seem to trust and respect his fighter very much, which is rare these days. Shaw is also a very good negotiatior in the lower divisions, and I don't think Golden Boy is necessary to move Vic from Showtime to HBO. So why break such a working relationship? On the other hand, if Vic loses to King Kong (very possible), I don't think GBP will look to sign a 'loser' at all, while Gary will back up Darchinyan no matter what. GBP has a lot of money and hold the TV card, but that doesn't mean everyone should head to Oscar, especially someone who already has a great team behind him. I'd rather watch Vic on Showtime main events than in HBO PPV undercards.
The fact that both fighters are P4P fighters already and this fight can be hyped up for its revenge aspect, this fight should be done for Vic's legacy. I think this fight is more important to him than collecting another belt in bantamweight which is quite risky for him. If Agbeko beats him, he will lose his luster, and a fight with Donaire will become dimmer. I think this fight should be held now that he has increased his stock.
Shaw isn't stopping the fight from happening due to Donaire not having a TV worthy name- it's because, in his words, 'you don't reward disloyal people'. Look at page 1 of this thread and watch the vid I posted. I also agree with you on the Agbeko fight. It's a very dangerous fight- especially considering that it's Vic's first at bantam- and I don't understand why people are writing Agbeko off. As for Showtime or HBO- I don't care as we don't get either over here! It's dodgy streams for me in the early hours if I wanna watch fights like this.
i disagree. yeah theres a strong possibility that vic can lose to king kong (stepping up in weight again) but the buzz for darchi-donaire 2 would still remain the same IMO. theres no doubt that nonito will be more than willing to accept the rematch too b/c win or lose, viC would still be nonito best option. so really vic is in a win-win situation b/c if he loses theres still a highly anticipated rematch which would be sweet revenge for his legacy. btw, as good as he is donaire isnt on my top 10 p4p list. -other than viC, his level of comp doesnt cut it for me.
Very true, I used to hate Darchinyan now I'm a fan too, the guy is a crook first time you run into him but once you see more it's easy to understand his antics and hilarious trash talking.
I can't remember it word for word but didn't he say prior to the Arce fight that he was gonna make Arce his '*****'?! The bloke is funny and very good at creating hype for fights, though. If he racks up a few more big wins at bantam then he is gonna become a big, big 'star'.
after King Kong i think maybe Vic only wants to fight a couple more times, in that case he wants to maximise his aerning caapbilities and being with GBP might make better financial sense.
What makes you acting like Shaw blocking the rematch which most boxing wants? No one has ever heard of Agbeko? It's still Donaire who has a name and instant fan base courtesy of his countryman Pac. His loss against Donaire is a big blotch in his career if not avenged can never be erased. But Donaire actually does not need this rematch. He beat Vic convincingly. All he has to do is go up in weight and fight big name fighters in the superflyweight. It's actually Donaire who needs this fight, not Nonito.
