think vic edged it he opened up a big lead early and def won the last in my opinion, but **** the commentators were raving on about mares the whole time on the stream i was watching, vic lands a killer uppercut that stops mares in his tracks and nothing said about it was like that most of the fight...
It was an excellent fight! Mares landed more in volume bu Vic hit with greater substance. Mares demonstrated one hell of a chin and, trying to be objective, I thought he edged Vic with his greater workrate! The final between Mares and Agbeko will be a WAR! Kudos to Vic. He has serious balls and shows a willingness to fight the best out there and do it away from home. I look forward to his next clash against Peres!
No-one's disputing that the referee's instructions should be followed at all times. I think Vic did a decent job of following the instructions given he has used his lead hand as a range-finder for his entire career. The dispute lies in the merits of the referee issuing those instructions in the first place. Personally, I doubt there is anything in the rule book about precluding the use of the lead hand as a "range-finder" or any other such analogous provision. From my perspective, as an interpretitive refereeing decision, it sucked.
really? Vic had control in the early rounds but wilted after 4 Mares.Mares was landing far more scoring punches while Vic was looking for the 1 punch KO.anyway 2 great fights think Agbeko will win this hope Vic wins the consolation bout with Perez.
It was a close close bout, which i felt Vic may have edged. Either way a rematch down the road after this tournament would be worth watching.
A great fight. Very close in the scoring but I have no problem with it. I was hoping Vic had done enough to win but Mares got it & good luck to him. I would luv to see these two rematch after this tournament finishes. Hopefully Vic can beat Perez & if Mares beats Agbeko what an exciting set up for a rematch. Props to Vic for continually testing himself against the very best in the world.
I had Vic ahead. But won't argue with the result. A rematch is a must see! It could have been the quality of the stream I was watching but I didn't think Mares work rate was greater than Vic's power shots - it's just that for a good 3 or 4 rounds Vic didn't throw enough between head hunting. Also love how you could see he was totally gassed, knew he needed a big round and came out to win the 12th. He's not going anywhere anytime too soon and is still a major player in the top 5 of the division. REALLY wish he got that nod from the 3rd judge though! Edit: Also the ref was terrible. For both Mares and Vic! The KD was legit, but the points taking and not letting Vic use his range finder was a bit much.
The ref was terrible both ways & i felt he wanted to be involved too much instead of giving them both more space. At times i said to my mate "this ref is over officiating"
Yet to watch the fight, but comments re use of range finding hand, I'm sure I have seen Vic warned about it before, and he wasn't happy, forget which fight, might have even been more than one of them. I was under the impression that provided the rangefinding hand does not make contact it is ok, but can't recall where I got this from, prob post fight discussion from another Vic fight.
Mares definately landed more and used combos, Vic just didn't let them go enough took to many to try and counter with bombs especially the back end of the fight.
I feel Vic Darchinyan not having Angelo Hyder in his corner for this fight was also a problem. Angelo seemed to really know how to motivate Vic & push him that little bit extra. I have had 2 or 3 different people say to me Vic may have gotten over the line with Angelo in the corner giving him some important instructions & motivation.
Not too sure, but i agree the corner was way too subdued for my liking. Vic being the confident fighter he is suited having Angelo in his corner, because Angelo told him the right things whether Vic's ego liked it or not.:deal
