Darchinyan changes routine in hunt for Donaire Vic Darchinyan makes his next defence of his super-flyweight world titles against Mexican Rodrigo Guerrero but its Filipino Nonito Donaire he really wants. To defend his WBA and WBC world title belts, Darchinyan will mix up his training regimen to try to improve his already brutal punching power. Gone are the heavy sessions in the gym bench-pressing 120kg and doing hundreds of push-ups with his feet elevated on top of one corner of the ring. Instead, the Sydney Olympian has been working with world champion discuss thrower Dani Samuels to improve the fast-twitch muscle fibres and explosive power in his legs. Parramatta Eels conditioning gurus Hayden Knowles and Craig Catterick are supervising the new lower-body program. They have worked wonders with Darchinyans former flatmate and fellow Olympian Danny Green. "Vic doesn't need to work on his upper body, boxing is enough for him in terms of maintenance there," Knowles told The Daily Telegraph. "But by working on the power from his legs, we believe we can increase his power quite considerably." Darchinyan's manager Elias Nasser admitted the assignment of finding fights was tough because of Darchinyan's fearsome reputation. Darchinyan's next fight will be on March 6 on the Arthur Abraham-Andre Dirrell card. he says he has the power to knock out Donaire in a rematch after the Filipino stopped him for the IBF flyweight title in 2007. 2 FEB 2010
I don't think Vic can really change too much technically at this point but he needs to have a whole different mental approach in the rematch. He can't go out there trying to get square and impose his power on Donaire. He'd be risking getting ko'd again. I'd be trying to take Donaire past 6 rds and win the fight in the second half. Of course if an opportunity was there early...go for it but Donaire will be most dangerous in the early rds. Nonito is fast and a very good boxer/puncher but he is very reliant on his left hand. Over reliant imo. Vic needs to be very careful against it. I've got a little ? mark over Donaire's stamina...he started to fade against super fit Sth African Mthalane (I actually gave Nonito snr, the tape of Mthalane v Hussein) before the fight was stopped on a cut at rd 6. Vic has good stamina for a loaded puncher...he carried his power through rounds. The other thing is....I've heard Nonito jnr has become quite comfortable and a bit cocky since the Vic win. Desire to give 100% in camp still there??? maybe not. If Vic can get through the first half of the fight in good order, I reckon he'd be too strong for Donaire who I see as weakening down the stretch.
Contendo has Vics game plan worked out already.... First it's ze jabbing and ze moving Then mid rounds he followz with ze boxing a little more on ze inside Then mid to late rounds its time to feel ze power Then late rounds it's time for ze killingz Go get them Vic :good

Donaire, who holds a KO win over the hard-punching Australian-based Armenian, and will defend his belt against Gerson Guerrero on a February 13 pay-per-view card in Las Vegas. Donaire needs to stand up and fight someone who can actually throw some punches back at him, stated Darchinyan. Since he fought me, who has he fought? Bums that either shouldnt be boxing or should be retired. I am praying he wins his next fight and comes through with no injuries, I dont want him making excuses when I finish his career. Dont go looking for Arce and make that a excuse of why wont fight me. Get through your next fight and its me and you, anytime, anywhere. He continued, Stop running and saying there were rematch clauses and you wanted to fight me. I would have fought you the next day if I had my way. The people around you care about your career they know if you fight me you will be knocked out. Now youre fighting junior flyweights and you think youre a champion. Your opponents are hand picked to make you look good. Youre a fraud and youre fighting bums. I promise I wont make the same mistake again. I made you and I will break you and expose you for the fraud that you really are. [/FONT]
"No vun can handle my power" :yep (You love it Ash!) I must admit, big props to Vic, he is just busting to get back in the ring with Donaire. Not only for Vic's personal victory (should he win), but ****ing hell, there would have to be a fair bit of coin for them both to share you would think? :thumbsup Even the yanks want this bout so let's all hope it get's made. What about a scenario whereby Gary Shaw promotes it out here - Sunday afternoon fight here in Oz. Beam it back into the States via Showtime for Saturday night, our time zone blends in quite nicely for the Phillopino's and make's for tasty numbers of PPV all around the world! They share the US revenue and keep their respective countries PPV's. It's not like Vic hasn't headlined a show before over there. The basis is there I feel. Vic would be seeing 'ze moola for ze killing'!! :deal
