That version of Toney had absolutely no interest in boxing. I would pick DM over him. A motivated well conditioned Toney would **** DM.
Even that variant of Toney was far and away better than anything DM faced....as a rule. One has to remember, DM usually faced known guys after they had seen their best days or had been dispatched by RJJ. I know that isn't going to go over well with some, but "The Tiger" certainly didn't blaze any trails on his own right....and I still haven't forgotten the shady ending to the first Graciano Rocchigiani match. I'd bet the farm on the "disinterested" Toney.
Tell that to Drake Thadzi. He beat Toney and then got KTFO by DM. I think DM was vastly overated too, but Toney didnt care at that time, he was only fighting to get a paycheck. He was going through a nasty divorce and was having a lot of personal problems.
Toney would have got up for DM, and DM's style is made to measure for Toney to pick apart, Toney UD and it may be wide if he is in shape
Of course, Michalczewski got to Thazdi after Toney did....as is often the case, I've noticed, with his career. No, not buying it. Toney could show-up arrogant, under-conditioned, whatever, but I firmly believe he'd get up enough to be a few levels above the challenge and style "The Tiger" brought...even if he didn't get up all of the way to his best. And let's be BRUTALLY honest here. The fight would never happen unless Toney consented to all of Michalczewski's demands AND fought somewhere in Germany under conditions best termed as "suspect". Put it another way. I never saw in Michalczewski what others saw....in fact, I believe he would not have the record he has today had he fought in the States. People love to dis RJJ and his record and quality of opposition at light heavy....but conveniently overlook the fact that "The Tiger" made a habit of feasting on Jones' victims long after Roy sent them packing. The Tiger doesn't rate with Lights Out.
At lightheavy DM beats Toney.Don't care what shape Toney comes in at-he would lose.DM"s jab would be too much for Toney.
Toney never had a great performance at 175... but I suspect that DM's style would be bring the best outta him. Toney at his BEST counters the **** outta DM to a UD win.
