I do agree that DM's aggressive style would play right into what James does best which is counter over aggression. I could see him landing that counter right hand at will everytime DM throws his right hand. One other thing about DM was he had really short arms for a light heavyweight that was 6ft tall. His reach was only 70 inches and not having length against Toney is a bad thing. On another note, I thought the Griffin/Dm fight was a bad stoppage. Montell was having some success against DM. I would have loved to have seen how that fight would have played out.
Got to see Ederi in AC on the boardwalk prior to froch v Johnson. He drew a good crowd of Hungarians. Kicked the crap out of his opponent. I remember him facing Hugo Hernan Garay in two good fights and getting hosed vs grachev
He got a HUGE gift vs Rocky the first time and should have lost. I thought Rocky got screwed in one of the Maske bouts as well I forget which one. In my opinion Rocky was better then both and Rocky never gets mentioned.
Man I loved hi jab he timed it perfectly and it was like a Quartey type jab that really busted up his opponent.
I doubt he beats those two but i don't think he's on a par with Sturm .. Sturm wasn't a bad fighter but he's not on Michalkzewskis level.. he finished with 45-6-3 record.. drew with men like Murray, Stieglitz & Randy Griffin.. & lost to the likes of Chudinov, Geale & Castillejo.. hes certainly never beaten anyone as good as Hill or Griffin... yes you could argue he beat Oscar but Oscar isn't a MW... ..and if you think about it there's actually not much size difference between them.. height or reach.. who do you think would win if they fought? I think DM would mop the floor with him.. You can't compare the two's careers imo other than they were both fighting out of Germany. Maybe he's more akin to Marco Huck? In fact no, i think DM was better than Huck too..
Calling DM Felix Sturm level is comical. The recency bias on this forum is disgraceful. DM would have a great chance against Beterbiev and Bivol.
Of course DM would win. He was a large , natural LHW. He'd have to lose a leg to fight at 160. Big difference in size. DM was around the same level if a bit lower than Oleksandr Gvozdyk who was destroyed by Arthur. Where's this praise for DM coming from suddenly? It wasn't there while he was a home bird fighting exclusively out of Germany because he was Euro , not world leveller Bivol and Arthur are world level elites of the sport. DM was a basic up right euro level guy. Thinking he could beat either of those two shows lack of knowledge.
Whatever. Toney is the greater fighter overall. This head to head and in shape Toney would beat up DM badly at 175.
While I think Dariusz was likely better than Sturm as well, there's some parallels in the way both fighters had deceptively long title reigns that benefited greatly from careful matchmaking & home turf shenanigans. In Dariusz's case, -A fight he arguably could've/should've lost to girard was scored lopsidedly in his favor. -He plainly quit in the 1st Rocky fight & should've left the ring a TKO loser. -His fight w/ Griffin was stopped almost as soon as he got Griff in trouble, w/ just seconds remaining in the round. -The 1st Hall fight was stopped as soon as Hall's eye swelled, yet in the rematch Dariusz was allowed to continue fighting w/ both of his eyes swelled & bleeding almost the entire fight.
It was the 1st Maske fight that was considered controversial - Rocky started strong & hurt Maske several times down the stretch, but I thought Maske may have boxed well enough in the middle rounds to sqeek out a decision. Rocky should've been declared a TKO winner in the ring vs. Dariusz, but I believe he tested positive for a banned substance afterward, so in that case the fight would've eventually been overturned to a NC. Rocky was a lot like a SMW-LHW version of Winky Wright IMO, not only in terms of style but also the way he seemed to give every1 trouble no matter what.
