Exactly and the same deal was used for the Ward Kovalev fight. Kovalev would only win if he knocked ward out. It was already decided that Ward would be the victor if it went to the scorecards.
Well for those screaming robbery in the Ward-Kovalev match, all they need to do to reference what a true robbery is- is see the fight that occurred right before it. Maurice Hooker didn't win more than 3 or 4 rounds at the most and that's being generous. I don't know if the network is trying to "build" him into a champion, but they should look elsewhere. Aside from his physical attributes (which he had no idea how to utilize on fight night,) there's nothing about him that seems remotely impressive. It was quite the underwhelming performance on his part. He should think about going back to being top tier fighters' chief sparring partner.
Bad decision but I can't say how bad of a decision it was because I lost complete interest in the fight about halfway through and paid little attention from there. I was interested in seeing how good of a prospect Hooker was and it seems, unless this was just a career bad performance, he's not going to amount to much more than a fringe contender type.
WAIT THIS FIGHT WAS A DRAW?! WTF I STOPPED WATCHING IN ROUND 8 BECAUSE PEREZ HAD THAT IN THE BAG. EXPIERANCED GUY KICKING A YOUNGER PROSPECTS ASS WHO THE TV NETWORKS WANTED TO HYPE UP. BS That was the real robbery! holy SHT IM PISSED. And now both of these fighters will fade in obscurity. How much they get payed? $75,000 Hooker which he will blow on some BS and Perez $25,000... WAT. Should get payed on performance. 50:50 split. $50k each. Same with Ward Kovalev...How is Kovalev getting payed so much more less when he is a more exciting fighter who brings more numbers? After that fight it should have been $4m Ward & $3m Kovalev ATLEAST. Not $5m Ward $2m Kov - and guess who will have to settle for less to get Ward to go ahead with the rematch?
Roc Nation is gonna have to line up like 4 or 5 secret TUNA-upz for Hooker to get him his confidence back because that draw is equal to like 2 L's. (Considering the stage (PPV) & Co-Main event status it carried). I wonder if HBO will even bother to fugg with him anymore the more I think about it.
The first robbery of the night was even worse as the second. I actually saw it coming when I read that one of the commentators had it close... Perez clearly won that, and a shotout in his favor wasn't even far fedged. It did ring a lot of alarm bells, that the non US fighters wouldn't get a fair shake that night, if ever in Vegas.
