Darnell Boone's a guy with great power, and a kinda untrained but therefore awkward and unpredictable intuitive style that sometimes pulls off remarkable upsets. Equally he can look absolutely appalling against very mediocre fighters cos' he lacks the ability and skills to adjust if an opponents style doesn't suit.

Decent fighters who have met him before seem to have few problems, however, and I'd be very surprised if a more experienced Ward didn't deliver a comprehensive shutout.

Making it past Darnell Boone seems to be almost a right of passage in SMW/LHW in the US, but anyone who's fought him and figured him out has beaten him comprehensively on the rematch.

Boone has a stoppage over the current LHW champion and knocked down the current SMW champion. Pretty good resume for a journeyman fighter.

 

Boone is one tough mother****er...A much better fighter than his pro record suggest.

 

Well the trick is to hide your chin at all times. I think the problem is that because Ward doesn't have a authoritative jab to control his opponent, he has to risk working harder, which means he's there to be hit..
That knockdown was a flash knockdown which all fighters are susceptible to.

Boone has a huge punch and it was only Wards 7th fight. He got up , fought on and won.

 

Ward doesn't like taking fighters on that have an inside game because of that fight with Boone.

just look at all the fighters he's wanted to fight (no inside game at all) and the one's he didn't want to fight.
hell, he even wanted to fight an old broken Pavlik for crying out loud.

he wanted nothing to do with Bute. that uppercut on the inside would have brought back some horrible memories. :yep

if Groves beats Froch, look for him to go after Ward. that will be the end of him because George will destroy him. i have no doubts about that.

ward was embarrassing v boone but the fight that alerted me to his glaring weaknesses came in his 2nd professional defeat (in the eyes of any neutral) versus Bika. Groves will despatch froch, then school ward. groves has already faced the toughest opponent of his entire career in chunky degale.

 

What was this, Wards' 10th fight?

Lots of HOF'ers and ATG's have lost and struggled to fighters on par or worse than Boone. Not a big deal at all.
