Exactly, this is why we all know that even though he is consireded as a journeyman, he simply isn't one in reality. He has simply been thrown to the wolves and he has held his own. TIme for him to fight fighters of his level. If you are going to give troubles to Adonis or Sergey then you will surely give troubles to GGG or Martinez. He should get down to 154? He is bigger then that but he could pull it off but wouldnt that be too much?
His style suites 154, Most guys at 154 will be more drained than he is. Showing up at 170 is casual at 154 If he gets elite conditioned, he will be a very heavy handed medium sized Jr Middleweight
But at the end of the day he is still 19-21. :conf I know it's been a tough career but Martinez or Golovkin would never ever lose 21 times no matter where it takes place or who is scoring it.
Because they have proper management. Ask Adonis Stevenson, he lost a fight to Darnell Boone because he had no trainers, had no one behind him. Boone needs the same and he has a great team behind him for 2014. WATCH OUT FOR DEEZOL!
I won't dispute that, cos I simply don't know - Kovalev says that he was badly wobbled and it was a struggle to get through the last coupla rounds, says Boone was his toughest opponent. Boone was in his hometown however, and at that point Kovalev was a nobody with no significant backing...I find it hard to imagine it was a robbery - at that time it was the only fight Boone had lost in his backyard. Most likely it was a close fight (in fact in the Boone II commentary there's some suggestion Kovalev says he shouldn't have let Boone off the hook early on in Boone I)- it kinda suggests Kov did well in the early rounds but then took the KD and barely did enough to hold on... If anyone can find any footage of Kovalev - Boone I tho, I'd really appreciate a share. On topic though, yeah - I've been singing Boones praises since I started posting here - his resume probably has the names (if not the wins) to put most of todays championship level boxers to shame - right from Lara at 154 to Kovalev and Stevenson at 175, Boone has fought f#kkin everyone, often at just a coupla weeks notice....he's one of the guys who might not get the attention and the headlines, but keeps the sport alive. At 160 or even JMW with proper preparation and training he could probably still make something of an impact....if anyone deserves a shot at it, it's Boone.
I agree with you, he deserves a shot and will get it in 2014. He probably shouldn't have rematched Adonis Stevenson is all what Im saying.
Tough one to really workout. I thought Boone did enough to beat Ward and he has that KO win over Stevenson, a SD fight with Kovalev who are all world champs now. Could it be that MW, SMW and LHW are not too strong as divisions go at present? they all seemed far tougher divisions just under a decade ago with deeper talent in my opinion
sincere team that cares about him, will make sure he only fights at 154, despite the last minute tempting offers at higher weightclass ...Those offers are just a level away from taking a dive, if you dig more lots of fine contenders are exploited financially to fight in higher weightclasses that they end up trapped in...Keith Thurman was offered good paydays at 154/160 so they get rid of him at Welter...He made a good example of refusing the fast buck...eventually pays off...now he is getting paid at Welter against everybodys will :deal
I agree while.a fight vs caballero seems tempting, it's just not his weight class. Let this kid fight vs the best at MW
In reality he is a journeyman journeyman doesnt mean bad fighter though it is often the case he fits the bill as a journeyman: losing record, fights on the road, brought in as the opponent doesnt mean he isnt a good fighter it just is what it is
Yes, he has to prove people he isnt a journeyman and he will do just that in 2014 with a great management behind him. Doesn't a journeyman fight on a week or two notice? With his new team, Darnell doesnt fight on a week's notice, he has preparation before a fight.
With proper diet, he is easily 154. Chavez J. Was 180 back in 154, so even at 154 he will just be average sized. Just with more advantages than in unfair weightclasses Also 154 is where the big $ is, would love to see Boone cleaning up 154 :deal
You are right...I don't know much about the weight classes now a bit of amateur fan. If there is one boxer that has the frame to go as down as 160 or 154 as you say, its Darnell.
I think he is more of a threat to up and coming fighters. Now that Ward, Kov, and Stevenson are at the top of their game if he can beat them now I'd be highly impressed. Records never tell the true story how good a fighter really is. Never count the underdog out.
