Darnell Lamont "Deezol" Boone returns

Teetering on the .500 edge, with a current record of 24-24-4 (13), is making his first ring appearance of the year on Wednesday night in a cruiserweight 6-rounder on a non-televised card in Youngstown, Ohio being staged by Jack Loew. Boone is looking to push beyond just "breaking even" and put himself into the positive for the first time since 2015. His opponent, Lamont "Too Smooth" Capers, has a losing and non-threatening record of 9-13-4 (1), but is a 27-year-old natural cruiser, having exclusively fought in that division and up at heavyweight, and will have a 4½" height and 2" reach advantage on the soon to be 39 year old Boone.

 

10 years ago Boone's record was 14-10-2...so, yeah, technically above .500 (barely), although his thing has always been that he's much better than his record would suggest.

 

Yeah the fact he's at cruiser tells me he can't even make 175 anymore. (let alone his native middle & super middle stomping grounds)

Really a 5′ 7½″ dude is playing with fire messing around in the land of giants like that, especially pushing 40.

 

Don't forget that he popped Willie Monroe Jr.'s cherry. (among six total unbeaten prospects conquered, along with Stevenson, James Countryman, James and Ronald Johnson, Chris Archer ...he also drew with Lajuan Simon and Lennox Allen, both then undefeated and who both went on to be decent fringe contenders...)

 

Having a hell of a hard time finding any footage of Boone vs. Monroe - which, incidentally, was another time Boone's record was dead-even at 17-17-3, with the split decision pushing him "into the black".
