    EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: BJ FLORES
    By G. Leon

GL: Tell us about it. We've been talking about it off the record, break down the situation with Donnell Wilson for us. "I get a call the other day asking me if I was interested in fighting Donnell Wilson, and I practiacally jumped out of my seat. This is great, this is the IBF, we're going to make this an IBF eliminator fight, me fighting Donnell Wilson. I respect him, he's the most feared cruiserweight in the division, and I want him. I want to make a statement fighting Donnell, then after that, we'll look to make a world championship fight after that. Right now, he's on my radar. His people called me, his people offered me terms, his people told me everything about what I was going to do. All I said was yes, yes, yes, that's what I want. I want that fight, I respect him, but I know I can beat him. This will be a great fight for the cruiserweight division."

GL: I understand, based on our discussions, that you took the fight for short money. Could you elaborate on that?

BJ Flores: They told me it was an ESPN fight, so there was not that much money available. I said the money's not important on this fight. This is about an opportunity, if you get to make this an IBF eliminator fight, it's not about the money. There's a possibility of them wanting options, because I don't have a promoter. I said I'd take the fight for less money, if Idon't have to give them options, because that's how confident I am that I was going to come out of this fight ahead. That I'm going to win this fight, I'm positive about that. Seven weeks time, for a fight of this magnitude, this will be the first time in my career that I really get motivated for a fight. None of my past opponents have caused me to get excited when I hear their name, Donnell Wilson gets me excited. I would immediately go to camp, and get ready like I've never been ready before.

    GL: For what date?

BJF: February 8th. It gives me plenty of time, this is a big name, this is a huge fight. This is everything, this is the most important thing to me in my life right now. Making this fight is everything, I'm telling Donnell to talk to his people, and make this fight happen, options or not.

GL: Are you surprised that Duva's demanding options, considering you're fighting, who he considers, one of the most feared cruiserweights out there?

BJF: I'm not surprised, because people know that anything can happen inside a boxing ring. I think that everyone will predict that Donnell will beat me. I'm 100% confident that he won't, and I think that February 8th, I can show that. I'm not surprised, because that how boxing is with it's politics, but if they're so confident in their man, what do they need options for? I'm a stepping stone for him to go on to something else, right? So make the fight, and don't demand options. If we do that, I gaurantee you that will be the last time, this little undefeated streak that he has going on will come to an end.

GL: When do you expect to have some more news?

BJF: Tomorrow morning at 11 o'clock.

GL: Are you considering giving Duva options to get the fight?

BJF: No, I'll take short money, it's what I'd rather do. I'm 100% confident in my ability, and this will be a chance for people to see how confident I am, and what I'm going to do with the most feared man in boxing. Everybody's scared of this guy, no one wants to fight him. I've been calling out everybody, and not getting responses, why not fight two guys that nobody wants to fight. We can put an end to this, we can find out the #1 contender for the IBF, why do they have to have options on him? It's going to be nice, I can't wait to see it.

    GL: Anything else?

BJF: That's it, I respect Donnell as a fighter, but I can beat him. This is business, and I just want to get to the next level.

GL: Give us some closing thoughts.

BJF: I appreciate it, I'll give you a call at 11a.m. to let you know what kind of bull**** they're coming at me with.

Ding, what do you think about Herbie Hide at 200. Would you fight him, even if it wasn't for a title?

I'm glad he's down at cruiser. He brings excitement because he's a devastaiting puncher who is always looking for the KO. Problem for him but good for the fans is that he could just as easily be the victim of what he is looking for. I watched his last fight a couple days ago. His opponent was 19-0 but was fking horrible, albiet he had heart.

Unless I was going to make some decent money from the bout, it would be pointless for me right now. I've earned my just do at this point. A title fight or an eliminator is all I can get excited about. However, If they put up just 50 grand, I'll go upside his head.:beat

The cruiserweight divsion in great shape right now. My top 10 in no particular order are:

    1. The Ding A Ling Man - great punch (either hand) and chin, deceiving speed and is a sharp counter puncher. Needs better aerobic and anaerobic conditioning
    2. David Haye - Big hitter, fast hands, good ability although he may be moving up.
    3. Herbie Hide - the man can truly crack, hurt Riddick Bowe as a heavy years ago.
    4. Jonathan Banks - solid boxer puncher
    5. Emmanuel Nwodo - throws daggers and is fast, dangerous to anyone
    6. Matt Godfrey - fast hands, natural talent
    7. Enzo Maccarinelli - another big puncher
    8. Marco Huck - will know more after Cunningham, I think he's solid
    9. Steve Cunningham - tall with skills, not a puncher
    10. Firat (Borat) Arslin - short, strong, busy and aggressive. Not a huge hitter and gets hit.

    Worth a mention:

O'Neil Bell - takes a great shot, is a very tough guy with heart and can give anyone a tough night when he's "on." Can be unfocused and outhustled.:smoke :smoke
