Darragh Foley vs. Chris Jenkins & Stephen Ormond vs. George Ashie RBR

I'm part Scottish as well, and feel no compulsion to root for Hutch just because he rocks Tartan skivvies.

He seems a bit full of himself, and in for a rude awakening if he doesn't fix some of his lazier habits before stepping up. If they ever meet, Akhmedov by vicious KTFO.

 

David Oliver Joyce vs. Arturo López Raigosa, 8 rounds @ featherweight

 

The Punisher is another kid with to my eyes unsubstantiated hype. Looks very basic here, struggling to eliminate López who is almost like a heaping silver platter of prospect chow made to order for a KO.

(IB Funfact: López's ring name is "Tarahumara", which signifies he's from the same Rarámuri tribe of indigenous Mexicans as vastly superior now-retired boxer Daniel Ponce de León, who traditionally have experienced relatively little contact with the "civilized" world. I wonder if they might not be its only representatives in the sport...at the very least they must be on a very short list)

 

Kind of jumped on it but also hard to blame him, as Mirhoseini almost seemed to shrug, give up, split his guard and then looked vaguely relieved (even having just devoured a knuckle sandwich and still tasting leather) as he spun onto the canvas in a spiral like a downed fighter jet. Suicide by looping telegraphed right hand.

 

Smith, Hutchinson, and Joyce - triple-dose of "blah" to start off this card...

The business end should be fun, though. No mismatches up there.

Darragh "Super" Foley is defending his WBA Oceania 140lb title (of Irish descent, he was born in Kent and grew up idolizing Naseem Hamed, but has lived in Australia for the last 5+ years after going on a soul-searching journey in his mid-twenties) in what might just be the 5'10" southpaw's biggest test. I'm not sure how Chris "Rok'n'Rolla" Jenkins has been found eligible to box for an Oceania title, but that's neither here nor there.

In the co-main, the always scrappy and game-for-a-dust-up old mick Stephen "The Rock" Ormond tangles with Ghanaian national and WBO African lightweight champ George "Red Tiger" Ashie. Both men have mixed with decent company and even in defeat acquitted themselves well. Just one stoppage loss between them, and Ormond boasts a victory over Derry Matthews while Ashie's best result is probably a draw with Yakubu Amidu.

 

That vaguely white nationalist dude who posted as "Grime Rockstar" and then various other alts (until they got banned) ripped into me on my Akhmedov thread for dismissing his claims that Hutchinson was some ATG in the making.

 

Stephen Tiffney vs. Johnson Téllez, 6 rounds @ featherweight

 

So we have one lad with a girl's first name as his last, and the other is a Hispanic with a very common Anglican surname as his first.

Right then, let's go.

 

Round 1

Tiffney is bowing forward, catching Téllez's jabs and three-piece quick rat-a-tat maraca-shaking flurries on the pinky edge of his gloves. Tiffney pressuring, unhurried, collecting light shots on his guard. Tiffney just pawing a right jab out into the air, measuring. Then all of a sudden, almost too fast to see, KA-POW! Short left uppercut wedged in the gap between Téllez's arms, up into his chin, game over, goodnight!

KO1!!

 

That was honestly a beautiful knockout, set up & executed brilliantly all in under a minute.

Bloke with the girl's name is the first honest to goodness exciting prospect we have seen today.
