I think he fell into the trap of banging with Sturm...not a good idea!

I seemed to me and this happened to Khan aswell, Barker beat Geale and he engaged with Geale and came out on right side. That confidence makes you think you can therefore bank with the big boys! (nope)

He was loading up on all of his punches needlesly! and wouldnt surprise if that's what caused the injury.

Not sure what the gameplan was but it didnt work!

 

No that's wrong - Barker stood and traded because he couldn't move properly.

 

Are you saying he went into the fight with the injury and it didnt actually happen during the fight?

 

It was a question that went through my head after the fight was he carrying any significant injury into the fight?

All said Sturm looked very strong in there.

 

From reports that have emerged since the fight, it seems to be the case that he wasn't 100% and that's part of the reason he stood and traded was because of his nascent immobility (that seems to have been a theme in Barker's work since his comeback). Whispers are that he went in anyway because there's no danger he was going to be walking away from that payday. In the actual fight itself, he said that he threw an uppercut in the first and his hip worsened; after he was KD it dislocated completely.

Basically you've got a 100% focused Sturm who looked good and looked sharp against a compromised Barker. It was never going to end well, really.

 

Thanks, I know he has dodgy hips and most boxers are never a full 100%.

With regards to walking away from a huge payday...Sturm was always going to pay Darren (I think) wether it was now or a few months later?

Doesnt matter now though...he'd be aswell taking the re-match clause aswell then before retiring!

 

Sure, but there's a difference between not feeling 100% great and having congenital physiological problems!

Really think he is done now his training really was tailored to nurse him through a camp & there are corners that you just can't get away with cutting for long.

He got great money for the fight & I really don't think even if he wanted to go on his body has really had enough.

You guys remember the Burns-Cook fiasco Cook was in no way fit even if he can get in decent shape if his hip etc was to go again isn't worth it IMO.

If his hips cant do it anymore then fair enough....sometime's you have to say enough is enough. He can always say he won a world title which many cant.

Seriously,I don't think Darren was arrogant on the show.Could go along with everything he said,although as pointed out he was with 2 very articulate men in Lee and particularly Macklin,who really went up in my estimation.The one who did seem a bit ****y was Murray.But this attitude is probably an advantage to him as he does seem to have a lot of mental strength.You wouldn't expect him to be intimidated if confronted by someone like Stevens,who fought GGG last.

 

I believe most are missing the suspicious surroundings in this "fight".Could Barker have entered this fight with a known injury just to pick up a the biggest paycheque of his career-knowing full well if he didn't take the fight his career was going to be over anyway due to this hip problem.
And if so,what of the paying public?Just asking-a few enquiries and questions should be asked about this fight.

 

I'm with you but we will never know! Boxing is Boxing there are many things that go on we wont know about! Which is a shame cos it ruins the sport.
