And we head to the scorecards... 114-113 (Geale), 116-111 (Barker), 114-113 for the winner by split-decision... DARREN BARKER!!!!!
There was recent talk of him actually being injured going into this fight AGAIN, some said that was legit some said it was BS, never the less, I thought he might fold, but he didn't, he did a good job IMO
Congrats to the brits. you've added another legit world champ in darren barker. He looked awesome tonight.
I'd give Geale a better chance against GGG. Simple reason is that Geale can use his feet against GGG. After watching that Golovkin will break Barker down rather easily. I think Barker deserved the nod against Geale, he got off first in most exchanges and a credit to Barker. But I'd rate Geales chances against Golovkin much better than Barkers. Geale might actually now take the Golovkin fight, because he has nothing to lose and I really like that fight for Geale, I don't think he beats Golovkin - but I think stylistically he is the hardest challenge out there for GGG.
Neither guy makes it passed 4 rounds with GGG. Geale is there for the big shot, and barker would stay too close to the monster.
I'm so happy for Barker. He seems like a top bloke, and it's nice to see him rewarded after going through what must have been a tremendously hard period. With regards to the potential GGG fight. I do think GGG would win. But i'd like Barker to recoup and defend against Murray before.
Is there any way that people could STOP giving the results off the fight in the thread topic. What an jerk
One thing not to forget here is this is the first time we'v ever seen barker fight this way (he has but only when he's been tired in previous fights).. he usually moves and boxes off the jab and trys to counter alot more.. tonight he took the fight to geale, which was unusual for him but it worked..
Announcers made one mistake by saying "no one gets up and beats the count from a shot to the liver". Which, as Darren Barker said, was a shot to the solar plexis. Surprised they did not remember Maidana when Khan floored him with a body shot and he got up. Close fight, could have gone either way or been a draw. But Barkers output was hard to deny him, and Geale just did not have the tools to finish him when he had Barker really hurt.
