He **** his pants when Barkley growled at him during their weigh-in. Fight over.

lanky guy, nice moves but was limited and not really a puncher of sorts.

kept blaming his losses for wiegth draining....a jok at the time was that he was gonna be a heavyweight before he was comfortable.

I know this happened to him

Must have had nightmares after that experience. Barkley was SCARY.

I know van Horn carried on a few fights after that but I doubt he ever had the same confidence and desire.

Yeah, but Hearns was battering Barkley and got caught with a peach. Van Horn was petrified of Barklay and offered no resistance. Honestly, if you ever see the fight, you'll feel sorry for him. He shits himself. I didn't rate Van Horn one jot, carefully managed, massively protected, American hype-job. Decent boxing skills, tall, rangy, one or two good wins, but a soft chin. Only reason he wasn't stopped more is because his calibre of opponent was so poor. As two-weight champs go, one of the worst there ever was.

................A University of Kentucky grad, Van Horn's father ran the show, and his dad was a garrulous, loud piece of crap that went out of his way to needle Barkley, as I recall. Called him "Iraq" at the press conference.

I can just picture Darrin sitting there giving pop the stink eye........"God dad, SHUT UP!!"

Van Horn was nothing. Very protected, clumsy looking, no real power, dodgy chin. Meh.

Van Horn was a pretty good pro but far from great.Decent pop and was tough/game although his chin wasn't the best.

He was ok, got televison deal, and a lot of publicity cause he had college degree, or was college student.

LOL, this was supposed to be a "gimme" fight for him too. Barkley was supposed to be washed up then.

Van Horn got caught up in a slugfest with Barkley and couldn't get himself out of it.

I never thought he was all that special to begin with, anyway. More hype/flash than substance, like a middleweight Joey Gamache.

I agree, I never got the impression that he was scared coming into that fight. Quite the opposite, he seemed like he was intent on knocking Barkley out (which was his mistake).
