So what you're saying is that you'd turn down a couple of grand as a PROFESSIONAL because his record was not good enough...yeah right.

 

I agree with out that the fight shouldn't be sanctioned. Thee guys definitely aren't doing there job. It probably doesn't help though that we don't have that many pro boxers in Australia, so the opponents to choose from is fairly limited.

 

It is easy to forget. Its always interesting to see what guys have to say who are actually involved in it because they bring a diffferent perspective then we have, and are much more realistic. I think a lot of us (myself included) have high expectations based on what we see in international boxing.

 

i fought a late replacement in nz once, i went there to fight tutaki , my sponsor came over and we spent some of our own money to get flights and i wasnt getting paid much, tutaki took another fight and at the last minute i got an opponent, 12-0 in no rules but 0-2 in boxing, i fought him for money, and to improve my record, and to make sure my sponsor didnt come to nz for nothing, and i got bad mouthed for it, but i didnt see any other solution, it usually comes down to $$$ for the avg fighter

Great example. I am slowly coming around on the train of though that respects the fighters choice in opponents more, although i am still a highly critical c*nt when it comes down to it. Boxing fans are probably some of the hardest to please out of any sport IMO.

 

more than once i have signed to fight a good aussie heavyweight, and they have pulled out for some reason last minute, you have trained your ass off, and you just want to fight, you spend so long mentally preparing yourself its good to just fight. there are alot of mismatches in aussie boxing but im sure if holyfield would fight me in perth for 1000$ id fight him, but obv you only get what you can afford

 

Cool. A lot of this stuff doesn't really get considered by the average fan. I can't imagine how frustrating it must be to mentally prepare yourself for a big fight only to have it fall through on you. Thats why the states would be so much better, because you know at least that the depth of fighters is so much greater then over here.

 

Its easy to complain about this card, but the fact is we have very few professional boxers in Australia & at least the Darwin people get to witness some boxing.

I think what he's saying is that: fighters fight. Often they don't have much of a say, whether it be finacial constraints, or the fact that in Oz there's not a large pool to choose from. Certainly this is the case at a domestic level.
