In his return to the ring following his 2011 top-5 FOTY (IMO) against Chris John back in April, Daud "Cino" Yordan competed deep on a Chris John undercard in Australia in the wee hours of the morning today for those of us in the USA. His opponent was a live enough one for a confidence-building comeback date, as Frankie Archuleta was flown in to rumble from faraway Nex Mexico. The card also featured Danny Green vs. Krzysztof Wlodarczyk in a co-main event that was probably most ticketholders' reason for being there, and also showcased some other fast-rising Australian talent. Yordan vs. Archuleta therefore got buried deep on the card, which was a 5+ hour PPV in Australia! Needless to say, I was still sound asleep when it happened live but have finally had a chance now to watch. [yt]kZhzieGeKeg[/yt] Yordan looked fantastic. Cold-blooded. Homicidal. He might actually be in the running for a rematch with John, to be honest. Assuming no terms can be agreed upon between John and Billy Dib of Australia, the #2 featherweight in Indonesia emerges as the best and still most deserving of the realistic challengers (that is, willing to go to Jakarta) for the #1. A second war at home would probably pull in big money for both, and would be a welcome addition to the 2012 calendar for anyone who saw their first classic. As for Archuleta - he was definitely game, but got battered. His desperate attempts to marshal his mettle at the end of the 2nd and return fire in the exchanges was both spirit-lifting and heart-breaking. The guy has had a fine career for his talent level, and while I used to kind of hate him for having a win over a past-prime post-MAB Johnny Tapia (although he was never as loathed as Sandro Marcos, the piece of **** who did the unthinkable) - his willingness to fight anyone, anytime, anywhere and often on short notice has to endear him to any fan of boxing. (Besides, Tapia avenged the loss so bygones are bygones ) After what Burgos did to him earlier this year, and now what Yordan just did to him - it's probably time for Frankie to ride off into the Albuquerque sunset.
I've been a Daud Yordan fan ever since he made Robert Guerrero quit in the 2nd round of a fight the Californian was supposed to dominate with ease over a no-name challenger and ended up getting a whole lot more than he bargained for. I want to see a lot more of Yordan. I can't watch the video of Yordan vs Archuleta yet, but I hope that Yordan gets another shot at John.
Yordan looked great live last night. Some wicked left hand work working downstairs to the body & up to the head.
YEESSSS WAR YORDAN!!! I will be so happy if he can make some more waves near the top of the division! Great thread IB
That was vicious, thanks for the vid. I once caught daud yordan posting on another forum he was a cocky mofo. Guess he can back it up.
