Yeah. Joyce, Dubois, Hughie, Gorman, Price, Chisora all destroy him. I’d back Sokolowski if they fought too. There’s not a chance Allen could win the British title or even be in a competitive bout for it so therefore I don’t class him as British level.
I backed Allen to win by KO. He was moving like a statue last night. Price controlled him with his jab and moved around him the whole night with his feet. He is a brave guy with a good chin. And he is a likable bloke. I am not going to make judgements about his ability or skill. I think he has hit his ceiling. If he carries on I think he will end up with CTE. Boxing is a brutal sport.
Dave "Woe is Me" Allen. I like him, but he's a sympathy seeker. He would have been loving the "Dave Allen has gone to hospital" reports. He probably didn't need a stretcher, but you know, it makes him centre of attention.
He's a popular character and a very likable bloke but he needs to call it a day now before he suffers any more head trauma. I think he'd be a good analyst for Sky/BT and a change from the usual cliques or dull personalities they often use.
I thought he has worked as a supply teacher in the past, which means he has a degree. Plenty he can do other than box, but punditry is probably his best option if given the opportunity.
He thinks we should all love him because hes a humble, self depricating personality. well guess what we would love you more if you learned how to box and fought your heart out. Youre a strong lump with a solid chin and thats it. Learn some defence and some skill. If you cant - retire. Im not a fan of his style or his approach to the game. for me he isnt particularly likeable, hes just okay.
But is he likeable? I just don’t see it. Don’t find him funny one bit. I think a presenter job then yeah fair enough but as an analyst I think his boxing knowledge is shocking. Every time he predicts a fight it goes wrong and he’s not clever enough to break it down for you.
As the great Brendan Ingle once said "Dave Allen wll end up blowing bubbles" Tough fella with a self destruct attitude
I like him and many others do. He may not be a great analyst but nor are a lot of ex-boxers on the circuit. Either way he needs retire.
George Groves summed Allen up perfectly after the Brown win. Woolhouse was asking all the pundits about what they felt about Allen and whether they liked his happy go lucky personality etc Nelson and I think Froch kept the company line, but George just replied with a deadpan “No” and basically said something along the lines of “I’m not a fan of that behaviour, this is a very serious sport and I want boxers to take it seriously. Many boxers don’t get the opportunity to fight on Sky Sports, so going forward I hope Allen really works hard” Seeing as Allen was supposedly in the bar until the early hours of Friday night, I guess Georgie boy was right.
Allen should call Harry Redknapp and get an assistant's job advertising Roly Poly Puddings - no better pudding out there to advertise this product.
I was surprised so many on here were backing Allen. Everytime he's stepped up his opponent he's lost. Lucas Browne is clearly past it and no good off steroids (was beating Allen before the body shot anyway). Nick Webb has never been any good and even then Allen got a bit fortunate. He was in an unnecessary war with Bracamonte in between those fights too. Every time he's stepped up a level beyond those guys and the likes of Tom Dallas/David Howe he's lost. Credit to Sky, they've made plenty of people buy-in and believe in him.. but Price has fought at a much better level than Allen for most of his career. It was clear from interviews that Price believed he was going to win easily, and he did. As mentioned above, lots of people within the pro game clearly dislike the preferential treatment Allen gets. Plenty - including Yafai, Ohara Davis and even Joyce's manager Sam Jones were having a pop at him after the fight. It must be pretty tough if you're a hard-working fighter who lives the life but can't get a shot.. then see Allen who is only remotely in shape a fraction of the time getting all these PPV opportunities. Allen seems a good guy really, but very vulnerable. He needs to stick to opponents of his level if he's looking to carry on or he'll get seriously hurt. It was utterly delusional of him to look past Price and pencil in a fight with Povetkin of all people. Good to see Price get the win though. Interesting to see where he goes next. A Chisora fight would be fun.
