Dave Allen says his boxing career is "probably done" after his defeat to David Price on Saturday night. Price produced a fine performance at London's O2 Arena to upset fellow Briton Allen, who was later taken to hospital for a precautionary scan. "I'd love to keep fighting but after a few weeks I will sit down and decide is it really worth it," Allen wrote on Twitter . Allen, 27, was forced to retire after the 10th round. "I don't want anyone to worry about me, I'm just a hard man gone old and soft the last 18 months," Allen added. "I will be okay but the last 12 months or so my health has been deteriorating and I'm glad I hung on took the chance and made money and now I'm probably done ." "I'm not big enough or good enough - that's what hurts most." Liverpool's Price, 36, controlled the bout from the off and drew a cut above Allen's right eye following a series of well-timed uppercuts. Upon being released from hospital, Allen went straight to see Price to congratulate him . The Doncaster-born fighter later revealed the cut left him "without the ability to see" so continuing the fight would not have been "very smart". "Could I have stayed in and going six minutes more stocking up on damage to my brain? Probably. "Would I have done that 18 months ago? Probably. I live to live another day and I'm OK with it. I'm smarter," he added - answering fans' questions on Twitter.
In one interview prior to the fight he said his tongue and his back were buggered and apart from the eye injury Eddie said he had a deep laceration of the tongue. I can guess the clever comments coming from some members, but the guy seems to be war torn now.
Spot on, it’s absolutely time to end this circus act. If Allen continues to delude himself about the level he’s at he will end probably having to drink his dinner through a straw within a decade. I also feel Hearn greatly exaggerates the draw that Allen is. I remember when he headlined against Browne, Sky seemed more interested in advertising the fact that Froch and Groves would be together doing punditry. I actually remember from that night Woolhouse asked Groves if he liked Allen’s village idiot persona, and Groves straight away said no. It was funny to see the look on the faces of the sky cheerleaders who obviously were expecting him to say something along the lines of “yeah he’s absolutely hilarious” but he told them straight if you don’t take the sport serious you’ll get badly hurt. At the end of the day that’s all they see him as some sort comedic relief nothing more and I hope the guy is smart enough to see that for himself but sadly I doubt it.
he should just start some youtube channel for his supposed banter that everyone keeps banging on about. he's not fit to be a pundit.
Hearn should be looking after him better imo. People can get killed in this sport. Dave doesnt have the pedigree or the skill to fight guys like price, ortiz or some of the other guys hes been in with. Fair play the lad gives it his all but price as bad as he is at the top level is levels above dave allen. It wasnt some fantastic performance from price that he pulled out the bag....he,d have done that to dave at any point in his career. Hes just a good couple of levels above him. Hearns makes out hes doing allen a favour....but its rubbish tbh. Just using the lad. He could have gave allen a good turn by running his career properly and giving him success at his own level instead of using him as a filler to guys that can genuinely hurt him. Dave can keep fighting by all means but give him a proper career path way down on the undercard against guys his own level. Thats doing him a favour. Sticking him in with price etc is just gonna get him hurt. Couldnt believe allen was favourite for the fight tbh...although price has came unstuck that many times hes hard to make a betting favourite but he,ll beat guys like dave allen any day of the week. Price is the same tbh...do we really need to see him go in against another povetkin again. Run his career properly...even if you dont promote him personally. Although tbf to price his big power gives him more of a shout than allen has. But how many times does he need to come up short till we say no more big shots. Congrats to price last night tho...and fair play to allen who kept at it all night till he got pulled.
Wow. If he’s stupid enough to continue fighting, he should stay well clear of the British top 10. People can say he’d be ok with someone like Gorman but facts are he’ll get punched in the head a lot more which is more dangerous than a one shot bingo punch.
If he is going to continue he should box guys like Alex Dickinson and Simon Vallily. That is his level.
