Dave 'Boy' Green 1977 v Colin Jones 1983

Dave was terrific to watch. Busy and brave, all action type of Fighter but he was hittable. That's no good against Jones.
Colin by KO at just about any point in the fight.

 

It's a curious match-up in the sense that their achievements were similar, but Jones seems to be the clear favourite based on their respective strengths and abilities.

On the one hand you've got one of the most chilling British punchers in history, who it's easy to see picking up a world title in an alternative timeline. On the other you've got a guy most famous for a highlight reel loss and who was stopped by journeymen in a way unthinkable for Jones.

I think it's a closer fight than it may seem at first glance. Green was on the slide by the time he fought Leonard, and was a better fighter 76-77. He was similar to Hatton in that his style made for a short prime, and once he got dented he wasn't the same.

I can see Green outworking Jones in the early rounds, but with Jones turning it around with a late stoppage. Green is live in this fight though and certainly no walkover.

 

Green was strong as an ox and as game as they come and if you couldn’t discourage him you were in trouble.
The trouble for Green here is that Jones has plenty in either hand to discourage him.
I believe it would be a tough fight for as long as it lasted but with his porous defence at some point Green would be tagged by Jones and it would be all over.
It only took Jorgen Hansen 3 rounds to see Green off and although he could bang he didn’t have the power of Jones.
