Good thinking by them. He beat Bobo Olsen & he's in there.

Before anyone jumps on me about champs being beaten by little known fighters. we have to remember that these old blokes couldn't just jump on a plane & be back next week.
Americans could always get to fight our best when they came here, but the opposite wasn't the case (As in Les Darcy for example)

    Hope he makes it.

Dave Sands had fights with a few top contenders and beat them all.
No doubt that had he not been in the truck accident he would have become world champ. We lost a gooden when we lost Dave Sands.

Just about every good judge wants to tell you Dave Sands was the best we had.

Olsen even said Sands would have been a world champ if not for his untimely death.

Olsen would know.... Sands beat him twice, both here and abroad. Olsen fought Randy Turpin for the vacated title after Dave Sands' premature demise, and Olsen won it.

Randy had already defeated Sugar Ray, taking his crown, losing it in a return. Sands had belted the Empire Title from Dick Turpin in a single round, Randy's brother!!! Asked if he'd like to fight Dave Sands, Randy made a very simple comment.. "NO THANKS, I'd rather face Sugar Ray again".

Yep i think he deserves it even if some of the classic boys might complain.

If not for his death Dave Sands i say would have eventually gone onto to fight and maybe be even beat Sugar Ray.

Sands had some big wins aswell not only did he have two wins against Bobo Olson, he also had great wins against.

    Dick Turpin
    Robert Villemain

Being only 26 years old he may have and probably gone onto to fight
    Ray Robinson
    Kid Gavilan
    Randy Turpin
    Gene Fullmer
    Carmen Basilio

There were so many good fighters around then. And Dave was one of them.

Its same old story with great Australian sports stars the went too young.

Such a pity that as much as Dave Sands acheived in his short life & career, it's a case of what if??
