I had several Pabst Blue Ribbons before the precedings and was set to go! I started with Gomez-Pintor, and was scoring it and writing comments the whole way until I discovered rounds 7-10 were missing... Great fight, though; Gomez' face looked like **** and when it picked up in round 11, it was the straight punches that got his momentum going again... Great fight- Gomez' sharp punching came through again. For the record, I had it 3-3 Gomez by the 6th round... Next was much more impressive for me: Sanchez vs Lopez I. If Sanchez missed a right hand all night, I didn't see it, and I'm not exaggerating... Admittedly, I've never seen a Sanchez fight, and I have 7 of them, so against Lopez, who is a deadly puncher who I saw destroy the busy and hard-hitting Chacon, I thought I would be witnessing a great fight. What I saw was a thorough and professional ass-whipping. Lopez, who I have all the respect in the world for, and even more so after this, was never really a factor in this fight- Sanchez literally landed at will... And Lopez, admittedly had poor defense, but he was rendered null and void by Salvador's lateral movement and head movement. What struck me is Lopez didn't change tempo or style or anything from the start, he kept on doing what he does without discouragement... Some would call this a lack of adjustment, but you could view this as a confidence in his ability... He's not in love with his power, as he's not throwing one punch at a time and banking everything on that; he's patiently stalking, taking punishment, and lashing out just like he always did... I didn't see any visible discouragement in his body language. I just saw a guy who had one style, and that would work for him whether it be in the first round or the last round, and he was going to land a fight-altering punch at some point, so be on your toes! Unfortunately for him, Sanchez was on his toes, and then some... I am truly impressed with the ability of this young talent that died so young... I will hesitate no longer at viewing all I can of the other fights I have of his and appreciating his talent. Whoa.
Welcome to the club. I'd recommend watching the Sanchez fights in chronological order. Being a first time viewer, it will give you the sense of his career unfolding before your eyes, which could be cool. I won't give too much away, but I'll tell you that I like both fighters efforts even better in Sanchez - Lopez II. Gomez - Pintor is classic. These clips contain the missing rounds you spoke of. I wasn't aware you hadn't seen Sanchez yet. Lot of good stuff yet to see. It's interesting too, to see his pre-title bouts, if you can find them. I believe the Rozelle fight is out there, and maybe a couple others. He was much more of a banger then, or at least less wary of a non-championship caliber fighter. All of his title fights are out there on youtube, if you're issing any in your collection. Gomez-Pintor was fantastic; I think he made the fight harder than it had to be, but he wanted that knockout, and from what I've read, his legs weren't what they'd been earlier. He'd turned into a pure stalker by then.
