Pre-Duran Davey Moore stops Kirkland. Laing was basically a welterweight who often came in a couple of pounds north of 147. Davey was a gifted true junior middle. All Kirkland ever did was win a split decision for flitting around the ring like the cartoon Roadrunner against a disinterested, puffy Duran .. the Duran who fought Moore would have run him out of the ring. In his next fight after Roberto, Laing was stopped by Fred Hutchins. Nino LaRocca beat him too, as did Buck Smith (by stoppage). Davey is far superior to those guys.
