David ‘The Monster’ Benavidez vs Bernard ‘The Alien’ Hopkins 175lbs bests

Benavidez outworks Hopkins to win a UD.

 

BHOP made a career feasting on big punchers and countering them. The problem that Benavidez presents is h8s hand speed and volume. I'm not ready to pick him, but he does have the style to seriously trouble Hopkins. It would be a fun fight for sure.

 

Its his volume and combination punching that would be too much for Hopkins who would have moments but as the fight progressed would go more and more into a defensive shell.

 

Benavidez' first fight at 175 against a power puncher who seems to have lost the ability to pull the trigger. Hopkins was in his 40s fighting at 175 but had a few reasonable wins, which didn't age well after those fighters had limited careers following their fights with Bernard. It might have been that Hopkins damaged them, or they were already nearing their decline.

Hopkins was very good defensively, and was able to counter effectively without taking punishment. DB also has an underrated defense, and stamina that seems to last 12 rounds.

IMHO Hopkins is able to land many more counters on Benavidez than he has ever experienced. Whether David is able to adjust and wear down X is the question. Hopkins in his 40s was a great physical specimen but he couldn't have been as strong as his 30s, while DB is young.
