Get yourself along to the York Hall on a Friday evening and you will leave knowing you watched a good night of boxing.

Forget about £££s and promoters - nothing like a Friday night of boxing at the York Hall.

Every boxing fan should watch a show at York Hall at least once in their lifetime, just don’t take a coat as it’s like a sauna in there.

I think so, it's good to see any sport at all levels. Theres no doubt most of us are drawn to the big occasion and the skill levels of the top fighters, but small hall gives a different perspective, you often get a good atmosphere and some good tear ups, additionally you are likely to see some up and coming fighters whose careers you end up following. A bit like being a football fan and enjoying a games from the premier league or league 2, the experience is different but enjoyable all the same

It’s a brilliant venue. Wherever you sit it feels like ringside.

Back when I was on the tools I was working away in London through the week for a year and stayed round the corner from York Hall. Used to go whenever there was a midweek show on as the tickets were dirt cheap. Saw a young AJ in one of his first ever fights and James Toney was on the undercard, he must have been about 45 at the time

spot on he was 45 on that card https://boxrec.com/en/event/680974 I had no idea AJ fought on undercard for Prizefighter. Possibly the only time AJ was on a Tom Little undercard.

Great find. Only went a few times but managed to catch the World Series of Boxing once or twice featuring lads who went on to have decent pro careers - Joyce, Conlan etc. They used to give out bout sheets on the doors and I’d keep them to see if any of them made it  proper boxing.

In fairness, the conversation is more about the venue than the card. I think all promoters should use it, with the right kind and level of fights its a cracking venue and pretty iconic when most top names have had an early career fight or 2 there. I also think there is a place for Friday night cards. Not everyone is free to view Saturday night cards with family commitments etc, makes a nice mix up to throw a few Fridays in the schedule

Not expensive at all and every seat is very close to the action.

I used to say to my working colleagues that you are a real professional boxer when you have boxed at York Hall :)

A wonderful place where I have been countless times - often for smaller boxing events. I remember that in the early 90s I saw Lennox Lewis boxing and 10 years later Johnny Tapia. Some of the best fights I have seen live in my life have been at York Hall and as a previous post wrote, you are very close to the ring.
