Calz was undefeated for a reason. The reasons you give for a DB easy victory are decent, but if you think Calz never faced a guy that could knock him out, and take his punch, you're mistaken. Calz was pretty tough, he also had a good ring IQ. Sure, DB may have superior physical attributes, but Calz knew how to fight. Although DB could win, I don't think it would be easy in any way, shape or form.

Calzaghe is like The Flash compared to Benavidez. Benavidez has power but then so did Jeff Lacey. Joe by UD in my opinion.

Calzaghe’s skills seem to almost get both under rated and over rated simultaneously.

He wasn’t the best fundamentally solid operator, but he was elite when it came to IQ and making in-fight adjustments. Like his fellow ATG super middleweight Andre Ward, he know how to make adjustments and more importantly - win.

That adaptability is very hard to bet against.

I don’t think we’ve really seen Benavidez show that, as he’s mostly gotten by on his physical traits and athletic ability so far - and as others have said, those might be enough in this match up… but I’d definitely make him the under…

Currently, I see nothing from Benavidez that makes me think he'd beat a prime Calzaghe

Bhop was a monster puncher at the start of his career before he became more of a spoiler and Jones knocked Calzaghe down with a forearm and he recovered almost instantly, Benavides has never beaten a fighter on Calzaghe`s level, it would be a fantastic fantasy fight.

No, Calzaghe was quicker than Benavidez and slicker, his southpaw stance would be quite a problem too, Benavidez is still unproven at that level.

Plant has much better defense than Calzaghe

Primarily because he faced weak opposition in England hiding behind a championship belt for most of his career. He has about 5 significant fights in his career. Benavidez is also undefeated so its a stupid point.

I see nothing from Joe Calzaghe ever that makes me think he would be David Benavidez. Horrible stylistic matchup for Joe Calzaghe.

That was at LHW when Hopkins dropped Calzaghe. Hopkins hadnt knocked anyone out in years.

Yes because Calzaghe was this master technician with his slapping arm punches and basic defense. Give me a break

The whole thread just should have stopped at this comment. Nothing more needed to be said.

That`s because he changed his style, early in his career he was more aggressive, he had power he just didn`t go for it past a certain stage of his career, he became very careful and cagey, plus Calzaghe wasn`t that hurt and wasn`t hurt that much at 168.

He was very quick darting in and out and landing first with combos.
