Great fight and match making. According to official height & reach stats they are about the same but Morrell supposedly has longer reach.

Reality is that Benavidez is still 3" taller and I'd like to see what that reach disadvantage looks like in the ring. Morrell is also a very fast starter that can blow you away in the 1st round while Benavidez is usually slow, clumsy early, and takes a while to get warmed up.

I think we'll see what Benavidez chin is made of here, but he has also fought more solid opponents. Morrell could be hiding Cuban glass under there but can he box for 12 if needed. He'd be in good position if he can get a kd or two and then box without getting ko'd like Plant did.

I think Benavidez gets him late as Morrell has relatively low pro experience. If I was Morrell I'd unload everything on Benavidez early. I love match-ups like this where we have different attributes and someone can be exposed if they are the real deal. I feel there will be some good crap talking in the lead up too.

    Great fight.

I'd prefer to have seen Canelo-Benavidez but its still good.

This makes me think that Canelo-Charlo is next, with Andrade out in the cold...as always

It's this ****ed up sport of ours. If it was on the level, Benavidez could of had his time at the top, however long or short. It most probably wouldn't have been that long and Morrell probably would have ended it. However because of the BS world of pro boxing with promoters, networks etc, Benavidez has spent his time firewalled and if beaten by Morrell, never really having the chance to cement the no.1 spot. It's admirable seeing these two put it on the line and fight each but this sport doesn't reward the true warrior/risk takers anymore. Look at Gvozdyk v Beterbiev, similar scenario.

Morrel will be dangerous for the first half of the fight, but if it goes further i have benavidez stopping him.

If you expect an underexperienced, up and comer to spark Videz in TitTokreel fashion, why you excited of top elit Clenelo beating up the same limited fighter?

Morrell should be a win that ages well for Benavidez (if he gets it). Although I believe Morrel is way too green for an opponent with David experience.

Any fight that isn't against Canelo is a bit of an injustice. Even if Benavidez is a bit of a **** he has earned his shot.

Morrell makes Benavidez look foolish but then gets koed late.

Great matching making ? two potential super stars fighting so early for no belts or money? high risk no reward for benavidez? the worst match making i have seen in ages.

What's the downside? Someone will lose and have a loss on their record - who cares? We need more good fights and less marinating.

I didn't say Benavidez was limited numbnuts. I said Morrell being an ultra skilled very heavy handed southpaw who also happens to be one of the top prospect/contenders in the sport, is a superfight derailing opponent and as high risk as it gets. Kind of like Spence fighting Jaron Ennis or Vergil Ortiz before Crawford. What's so hard for you to process about that? Just because there's stylistically problematic out there who can beat a very good fighter, that doesn't dampen my enthusiasm for a fight with an opponent with a slightly more favorable style. You know, because I don't have the mentality of a child.

Benavidez is the no 1 contender and knocking on the door for the belt if canelo drops it (since he wont fight him) and is a 2 time wc. it will hurt his reputation if he loses to a 9-0 fighter and he loses his spot.

Morrell has nothing to lose vs benavidez in terms of reputation or even ranking since he's so green.

Canelo may decide to go up to HW and challenge Usyk at a 185 pound catchweight, who knows. There's no sense in Benavidez waiting for him, because as you say Canelo has not shown any movement toward fighting him.

I take your point about losing No. 1 status, but his alternatives are unappealing in a thin division. The only arguably better fight is Andrade, and I think Morrell will make for a much more crowdpleasing opponent. Canelo will need to fight the winner of this bout for sure or else GTFO from the division.
