maybe its coz manny did not went all-out against diaz. the punhces he landed on DD were pitty-pat arm punches. against hatton, he planted his feet firmly and threw really compact shots. but then again DD has a better chin than hatton

 

My memory failed me, so I looked up who the referee was for Diaz/Morales and, in a bio of Benjy Esteves, came across this little jewel:

"At least twice a week Esteves speaks with Joe Cortez, who many people consider the dean of contemporary referees. It was from Cortez, says Esteves, that he has learned to be calm and cool. In a business where character assassination is an art form, Cortez is one of the few people you never hear anything remotely negative about."

Then, later on, the writer decides to start talking about Benjy's mother:
"Like Joe Cortez, she was firm but fair, gracious and giving."
