In response to those who say Pac looked slower than he did at 130lbs, consider he was fighting a south paw and as a result threw his right hand more than he probably ever has. And he still looked plenty fast to me.
why stay away from guzman? i think if anybody beats guzman, it's gonna be pac. guzman has suspect stamina and he was fighting slow fighters. pac has as fast legs as guzman has and would chase him all night. at 135, that stamina of his would be greatly tested against someone who can move all night. i don't think pac gassed out one bit in the diaz fight. he looks gassed always because his face always look rough in any fight but his performance does not lessen. i can't see guzman hurting pac seriously. but i see pac hurting guzman once he appears in front of his face.
remember pac wasnt the one getting tagged throughout the fight paul williams threw 100 punches per round against margarito for 12 long rounds
those punches thrown by williams don't have power. it was more like shadow boxing. but punching with leverage and power all night is tiring, that's why punchers who fail to KO an opponent after a barrage usually punch-out themselves and are pretty good target for a retaliation. i didn't see pac tire out in the fight anyway. his performance did not slowed as the round went by
I agree that Guzman probably can't hurt Pac, and that Pac could "possibly" hurt Guzman, but lets not forget that Guzman has a granite chin. If Guzmans stamina is good at 135 who do you favor in this fight? I think its a close one, but that Pacs workrate will be the decision maker
because as of the moment, guzman is a high risk low reward fighter. admit it or not, non-hardcore fans have not heard of guzman. therfore, they will have a hard time selling the fight. as of the moment, tguzman should try to put in more names in his resume before pac's camp will take him seriously. look at his record. the biggest name there is only humberto soto. suffice to say, that's not a lot. add to that. he doesn't have a solid fanbase that would compliment pac's. a pac-jmm match will be worth much more than a pac-guzman match. so pac should stay away from guzman right now.
You have a point here... i actually would like to see pac fight a south paw again. It seems like he utilizes more of his right hand when facing a south paw... i've never seen pac boxed so good with both hands.
even if his stamina would be great at 135 (but this is doubtful, guzman looks sloppy to me in the final rounds of his fights at 130 so i doubt it will improve at 135), i see pac still by UD, not just by workrate but becuase his punches would carry more pop and more meaningful. guzman usually stops dancing when he unloads his combination, that's where pac gets him. he needs to use his right hand to its fullest though to break guzman's punching rythm. that would give him the opening to unload his own. if guzman doesn't improve his stamina, i'd have pac by KO or TKO in the later rounds
You are unfortunately correct. Are you saying that he should get more names on his record even if he beats Campbell? I won't disagree that it would make for a much bigger payday, but he might run out of big names because im guessing that Pac will take on the Casa/JMM winner
in my opinion, after the hatton fight, pac should get straight to the winner of campbell-guzman. i give him the edge over those two fighters. for all amsterdam's praise of campbell's defense, i think he got tagged too many times by diaz in his face. diaz just don't have the power to hurt him. pac throws straighter and faster punches. the only thing i can't be sure for pac is him facing the winner of casa-jmm match which is of course jmm. Jmm is just a bad match-up for pac. the fight could just go both ways i'm not sure to whom.
amsterdam loves pure boxers/boxer-punchers/counterpunchers/technicians, it's natural that 'one-dimensional' slugger like pacquiao ain't worth **** for him.. if guzman puts on a shitty performance i would laugh my ass off
I love the way Paclanders always say that JMM is just a bad styles match up. Look at Pac. He has every single tool he needs to destroy JMM. He has the edge in speed, strength, youth, and maybe even stamina. Stamina is pretty even i would say but JMM has to overcome all those things and you dont hear us fans bitching about it all the time. I get the whole styles thing but when you have an advantage in everything else it really doesnt come into play.
Yes, he needs to fight another one. look, there will be three more high stakes fights at 135 this year. casa-jmm, nate-guzman and katsidis-diaz. if guzman wins over nate. he could choose to get the ring belt from the winner of jmm-casa or can fight the winner of katsidis-diaz. we all know pac won't be doing his share of cleaning house just yet as the only names mentioned for him are two fighters from 130 (soto and valero) and 1 from 140 (hatton) guzman should beat rake in two big wins before getting a fight with pac. accept it or not. very few people know nate campbell. we boxing fans would be salivating over this match and the bigger market would not even care. he should then beat one of the four remaining contenders so that a pac-guzman fight will have a bit of air under it.
those are the intangibles... stylistically JMM is at the advantage. The pac that fought JMM the first time would not have beaten JMM in the rematch, pac adjusted his game a bit.
