It strikes me that though this may not be the primary reason that the Wladimir-Haye fight is not going ahead, it must surely have factored into David Haye's eventual decision to turn down the fight: the fact that Haye is both a Pretty Boy, and is interested in Money. Unlike many of today's heavyweights, he really takes care of his body, coming into all fights in good shape. Maybe this shows that he has a good attitude towards the fitness side of boxing that many of his peers need to pick up on (Arreola, Solis and others). But aside from this, perhaps Haye is a narcissist. Remember that he has posed for numerous magazines, and has even had pictures taken of him naked (spare me ...). Onto the scene comes Wladimir Klitchko saying that he is going to give David Haye the pizza face. Wlad claims that he will beat Haye's face to pulp for 12 rounds, and then 'when the process is completed', Klitchko will knock him out. Wlad doesn't just want to beat Haye, he wants to beat him in such a way that Haye is humiliated, and broken. Wlad wants Haye's bruised, cut, swollen face to appear on the front of every British paper, and boxing magazine, to be in the news and to be on the lips of the British public. This will be a huge affront to Haye's revolting self-love, and will mean that he'll be unlikely to get so many requests to pose naked. Haye has claimed he's retiring in October. The reason he gave: he's accomplished everything he wanted to, and he has been hit in the face enough times in his life. What has Haye accomplished? Fame, spesifically (and predominantly), fame in the UK. Haye can retire in October and still be a well-known figure in Britain for years. The British media have pedaled to the British public whatever Haye has said, true or not, concerning the affair with Wlad, so it's unlikely that he will lose any of his reputation over that affair and further, Haye's present fame will be enough to keep him covered for the rest of his life and open up lucrative arrangements in the future. If Haye gets his face smashed in by Klitchko, he's unlikely to be remembered in half as good a light, and he can say goodbye to a lot of money that would have awaited him later in his life. Now, obviously these reasons alone would not have been enough to turn down the fight with Wlad, but considering that if Haye does not fight Wlad he will 1. not be publically humiliated, 2. be able to look in the mirror without retching, and 3. still have a tidy amount of money for the rest of his life, along with whatever other reasons that he might have, I can see (from his warped point of view at least) why he did not take the fight.
Only problem is Haye has no skill and can't fight. Like Tim Witherspoon said his trainer learned the fight game by watching film. His trainer never fought on any level. This is why Haye has no balance , no footwork, little counterpunching skill and absolutely no ring savvy. This is why he has to fight the Audley Harrisons in the world.
It's unfair to say Haye has no skill. Other than the Klitschkos, he's the most talented, skilled and dangerous heavyweight out there. These aspects of Haye can't be questioned. His motivation and attitude, however, leave little to be desired.
Haye couldn't beat the following fighters. Fatboy Arreola, Odlanier Solis, James Toney, Evander Holyfield, Sam Peter, Hasim Rahman, Tomasz Adamek!
Lets see Floyd is a tremendous champ with a enduring legacy. Someone remind what this dip**** Haye has ever done but run his mouth?
Firstly, what has that got to do with you claiming Haye has very little counter-punching ability?...when he clearly has, and he regularly uses it. You're obviously not seeing said counter-punching, or you just havn't seen much of him. And secondly, you say, "Haye couldn't beat the following fighters"...as if Haye has already been defeated by all of them. The guys that stand out on that list who would give Haye a good go, and may even pull off the victory would be Adamek and Solis. Although not an overweight Solis. Everyone else loses.
With all due respect to the guys you mention there, Haye destroys all of those current versions. Perhaps Solis would give him the toughest fight, but the rest would fall victim to Haye easily. The heavyweight division is dire. Outside of the Klitschkos, I can't see anyone inflicting a second defeat on Haye.
Yes because the wins over Harrison, Valuev (Who Old Holyfield nearly beat) and an ancient Ruiz prove what a great fighter Haye is. Wake me up when Haye has a win over a real champ
Im not going to even attempt to defend Hayes abysmal stint as a heavyweight. But his abilities as a fighter, I will. I mean, if you put Haye alongside all those guys mentioned, who would you say has the best chance of beating the Klitschkos?
