No he can't counter on the level of the average HW Champ. Hell no. He can't counter on the level of Holmes, Holyfied, Norton, Spinx, Bowe, Witherspoon, Moorer, Foreman. This dude doesn't even counterpunch on the Briggs, Grant, Arreola Level. Matter of fact Cristobal has 2x's the boxing skill this guy has as fat as he is. Chris has better hands, feet and power everyday of the week.
Please don't compare Moneys's countered pot shots with David Haye throwing that 1 right hand over the top. If you watch Floyd when he throws that one countered shot he's often(but not always) against the ropes and using it as support for his squat. You see when Floydie throws the counter shot he is very rarely standing straight up. He''ll crouch from the knees , move the head constantly while bending at the waiste looking up between the gloves of the opponent. This is why these shots are so accurate because of Floyd's throwing angle is in the perfect position to make direct contact. You've heard the statement that "the shortest distance between to points is a straight line?" Well this is how a great counter puncher is going to look to touch his opponent. Making sure that he has consistent angles that are going to allow him to get between the gloves upstairs or deilivery the bodywork round after round. David Haye doesn't know **** about this!
Yeah. It might seem cynical, but Haye is the kind of guy that it's healthy to be a little cynical about. Narcissism: Haye is a narcissist. Haye poses naked for magazines. Haye wants to retire because he doesn't want to be hit in the face any more. Wlad promises to smash Haye's face in. Haye does not want to go into interviews on TV in which all the host wants to talk about is a picture Haye's face beaten to a pulp. Wlad is therefore not a good guy to fight for Haye. Money: If Haye does not fight Wladimir, the British media will spin it to look like he's the good guy anyway, and money-wise it's not so bad as he's still pretty well covered and will get all sorts of lucrative loving from the public because he retired a 'heavyweight champion'. If Haye does take the fight he'll probably lose the fight AND some of the support of the British public (which in conjunction with the memory of his fight with Fraudley might dip paticularly low), both of which will contribute to no one being interested in him after he's retired. Again, Wlad does not look a good option for Haye. Conclusion: Fighting Wlad is too much of a high-risk move for the self-interested Haye. He said ages ago that he would retire in October 2011: enough time to get in a few easy title defences against out-matched opponents who will make Haye look like a god. Then all Haye has to do is mess up the negotiations with Wlad while making it look like he's the better guy throughout the whole thing. If he was active any longer than October 2011, not fighting Wlad would look more and more unlikely, and he could say goodbye to a future after the fight. Much better to quit while you're ahead.
So you agree, a big part of Hayes style is counter-punching? That's my whole argument. I could care less if he leaves himself open, or he is off-balance...my argument was that, and you clearly havn't seen enough of him to make a judgment of whether he counter-punched or not. Are you sure you have seen him box, at all? If I remember rightly, each bout you named, he has shown a good deal of counter-punching (not great counter-punching...but counter-punching nonetheless). I'm English. Not from his hometown, and not even really a fan. The only reason I'm continuing this conversation is because you have clearly seen very little of Haye, yet believe you know everything about him. And your definition of a counter-punch is hilarious. Mayweather counter-punches with one punch, and it's a great counter-punch. But when Haye counter-punches with one punch..."That's not how you're supposed to counter"...it's laughable at the very least. You're trying too hard to come across that you know boxing, when in truth, you're most likely 12 years old trying to sound as if you have some sort of boxing knowledge...yet type a load of bull**** lies, changing subjects constantly.
Once again putting words in my mouth. I not once said he was a great counter-puncher...go find the post of me saying it. It's actually very comparable, and you should know that seen as you know so much about countering. Haye employs a similar pull-counter in the majority, if not all of his bouts. Can he employ it as effectively as Mayweather? No, not even close. But does he use it? Yes. And if you have seen Haye (apart from that bout I showed you)...which you claim, you would know this. Stop talking about a boxer you know very little about. Or just keep changing the subject/putting words in my mouth.
Can he employ counterpunching techniques as well as anyone who has ever held the belt before him? Hell no! I just don't see where this dude has any skill!
I know enough about Haye and have seen him fight enough to know that at my age of 51 he couldn't hurt me in the ring. That I truly believe. I spare with guys here in Vegas all the time who he'll never give a shot at a bout and the general concensus among fighters and trainers in america is that HAYE AIN"T FOR REAL! DAVID HAYE IS AS SOFT AS CHARMAN TOILET TISSUE AND CAN'T FIGHT HIS WAY OUUT OF A PAPER BAG!
Dude you're just from england or some ****. Take that global game back to london or wherever the **** it came from. Haye ain't no fighter. Get real! Next subject~
This is my fist reply to you... ...I havn't said he's a great counter-puncher, and I also have not once said he is a better counter-puncher than anyone else. But you have clearly assumed that he uses very little counter-punching, when in fact he employs it a fair bit. He waits to counter his opponents jab a lot, and then he goes on the offensive if he catches somebody. Anyway, I'm off to bed.
