I thought this for years, but now I don't think it ever will. Let's face it, Sky without top PL matches can't charge anything like the prices they currently are.

If Sky lose PL rights, the whole Sky business model collapses. If the bottom drops out of the TV market completely, the PL loses its financial edge over other leagues and the PL itself weakens. The only way imho Sky will allow it to happen is if there's a truly ridiculous offer.

 

Sky aren't losing the PL rights. They know that's the foundation of their business model and they have the financial backing of Comcast a massive American company so no one is taking those rights, no chance.

 

The problem now is that organised criminals have the technology and a rapidly growing subscriber base charging the equivalent of 1 month's subscription for everything - including Box Office, BT Sports, Premier Sports, Movies, Porn the lot.

The high Sky subscription prices are not sustainable and the subscriber numbers must be going south fast as a result of these criminal ventures.
